If there are aliens there is no reason to believe they are necessarily more advanced than us. Although any with the means to make it to earth without being extremely basic organisms would have to have technology that isn't really feasible yet on Earth.

I know it’s just a movie and doesn’t dictate reality but I bet if we came across a more “primitive” alien species like in Avatar, our asses would try to capture their planet and take over the resources after ours gets completely wiped.
