Separating OP from this thread that has been posted 1000 times?

    Yes or no and why

  • Jun 3, 2020

There’s always a threshold or limit.

  • Jun 3, 2020

Depends how you look at the situation.

You can separate Kanye from his personal life because of the situation he's ended up in, as well as his attempts to rectify those mistakes.

Compare that to, say, Morrissey, who has made several racially charged comments over the past couple decades with no sign of trying to rectify those actions.

Never. Art is an expression of the artist and nothing less. You are hearing their thoughts and no one else’s

  • Jun 3, 2020

Kinda ruins the artist for me

Like I used to LOVE no worries but after what detail did I can't listen to that song period

Like if u out here raping women I'm not listening to u period. I can always find a new artist

Sad thing is at this point I can't rly trust any artist

Obviously yes because the actions of a person don’t change the music.

But it kinda has a side taste tbh

I have no idea what song you’re talking about but Ignition Rmx is still a vibe.

R Kelly obviously a POS but that doesnt retrospectively change the song.

    Ooo

    What does this even mean

Artistic context. A musician’s work, like any artist, is a representation of their thoughts while creating their work. What you listen to is a concrete, undeniable, and inseparable connection between the music itself and what the artist wanted it to represent. And that should always be sitting in the back of your conscious when listening to music

it really does, especially considering he’s singing about kids his whole career

    Not true

Artists like Usher Michael Jackson Beyonce etc have many songs that aren't written by them. They are popstars. They can sing and dance and so execs pair them with great writers who don't have that star quality but have the life experience to create great songs

For so long ppl thought Confessions was about Usher cheating on Chili just to find out Jermaine Dupri wrote most of it

So art is not always a reflection of the artists' thoughts.

  • Jun 3, 2020

    Of course

  • Jun 3, 2020

its very easy for me to separate em

I’m not black so i don’t get to speak on it

and regardless, gang culture and black-on-black violence was instigated by the FBI Crack campaign.

almost the entire entertainment / creative industry is sick & disgusting at the top. For the most part I don’t let it stop me from consumption. I just assume everybody’s dirty as s*** and move on with my own life.

Uh you realize art isn’t just from ones own thoughts and experiences correct? You can also interpret art how you want unless the artist explicitly states “this is what X song is about”

I honestly feel that this has become a bigger issue in the world we're living in because everyone's laundry is out there for people to pick at and criticize.
Im sure a lot of my favorite artist and entertainers in the 70's,80's and 90's had a lot of flaws or dirt on them. I just happen to not be that heavenly invested in their personal life.

I’m asking u if u think that it’s the morally right thing to do when u listen to and support them lol
