Active for two decades now and having released arguably his best work yet last year. To simplify him as just a rapper is an understatement. Over the years he has ventured into techno, pop, and simple spoken word over an acoustic guitar. With collaborations ranging from Sufjan Stevens, Justin Vernon, Andrew Broder (Fog), to Kenny Segal and more.

His work, while inconsistent on account of his experimentation, never fails to fascinate. Its seeped with melancholy, dark humour, and clever lines. His magnum opus being his Kenny Dennis universe which has now spanned 14 years, carefully crafted and detailed to the point that he even wrote a screenplay of it. So beloved that the Chicago Bulls invited him to do an official remix of one of his most famous tracks.

Check him out if you haven't, there's an album for every mood. Truly a genius artist.

    @marcusg @Sinewave @NIGHTMAN

Its tough to pick a clear cut starting point so i'll try and give a rough range, dependant on taste/mood.

Family and Friends - more conventional in sound but really great, hard hitting storytelling.

Saal - very bleak, orchestral/electronic production. If you like this then check out Dr My Own Patience.

Serengeti & Polyphonic - only one album on streaming, the other can be found here. audiorecon.bandcamp.com/album/select-choices
    More experimental in sound.

For the Kenny Dennis universe the order is:
    Dennehy
    Kenny Dennis EP
    Conversations with Kenny/Legacy of Lee
    Kenny Dennis LP
    Kenny Dennis III
Jueles Butterflies (pop album with a female singer)
    Dennis 6E
    Ajai
    Ajai epilogue
    Kdxmpc

Probably the best, most expansive and detailed world building in rap. So many hilarious details and really sad, human moments. Definitely a worthwhile journey however daunting it can seem. Amazing skits too.

    Other stuff worth checking out:
    Testarossa (with WHY?)
    Yoome - June
Time & Materials (with Open Mike Eagle)
    To The Max (more conventional)
    Davis (more lo-fi)
    The Moon EP (great storytelling)
With Greg From Deerhoof (more experimental)
The Gentle Fall (acoustic guitar and spoken word)
    Dust EP (more conventional)
    Quail (more pop)
Sisyphus (with Sufjan Stevens, Son Lux)

He's got a really enjoyable episode on Hannibal's podcast if you aint checked it out. Really funny guy.

And yeah him and OME have an album together, while Tony Trimm produced Conversations with Kenny/Legacy of Lee, and appears on some skits there too. Oh and he did the Yoome project.

really liked that yoni&geti testarossa album also time & materials. haven’t ventured further than that. the discography is super extensive

'Noticeably Negro' still holds up very well too, especially for an album 15 years old. Writing is as sharp and witty as ever, observations on race and politics that still are pertinent. And the production feels forward thinking.

I don’t listen to him too often but I really admire the dude’s ability to build a world and still excel at rapping simultaneously
