'You dont get "off the grid" quality of artistry without some extent of forced labor'

Like it's a great track but HOW is forced labour necessary there?

    "Unpopular Opinion:

You dont get "off the grid" quality of artistry without some extent of forced labor. Sacrifices have to be made for greatness. Everybody tiptoeing these days afraid to cross boundaries or to be exposed. But at the end of the day, your favorite song, your favorite shoe, your favorite garment, your favorite drink if everybody in the process was in a comfortable state. Labor takes its toll. Somebody at some point sacrificed something unwillingly for it. Its not just the willing ones, sometimes we need to dig our graves in order to feel alive"

    who

also ye got a sweatshop lol

im pretty sure it's better working conditions than a f***ing nike sweatshop lmao

forced labor isnt by gunpoint but its "we keep going or you out"

how can the greatest artist just be like you know what "cool you slept in we will work eventually?

i think she's pointing out a reality, that is often the case in high quality music

i'm not sure it's a reality that should be defended though. More reformed

And as I say, if Kanye is willing to let go of so much of the writing and production work. Then he might as well give it to enough people that they don't have to be severely exhausted.

Obviously the flip side of that is financially the less people involved the bigger a cut the producers working those crazy hours will get.

It's complicated, but ultimately an artist with Kanye's resources shouldn't have engineers experiencing burnout

If so much of the art (In all mediums) we are getting is forgettable or comes and goes. Some of the best art looks at Rockstar, Cyberpunk situation, Donda may come from crunch and extremely passionate people pushing themselves harder than they have ever pushed themselves or believed possible. Art isn't a 9-5 especially when someone may listen once and never again. That stream of someone saying "cool thats trash I am out" isnt going to pay the bills of however long you spent developing the project, promotional material, tour, merch, management.

Is it wild that Kanye fires team each album ? Yes but its also to avoid becoming stagnant or anyone getting too complacent. They get their chance to go all in . Get Manic.

I can say Engineers shouldnt experience burnout but again if we got album after vegas, lp1,2, 3 right away without proper engineering fans would complain. How you create timeless art but afraid to put time in?

Yeah ig it’s difficult bc this was a convo had about idk the restaurant industry before, where some people argued kitchens were ran on a culture of abuse really. But I think since then and after a lot of critique within the industry, restaurants have largely grown out of that. Maybe its because everyone’s now being considered as part of a team working for a goal, rather than a group of people merely working for one person and one person’s goal? Here, obviously if you work for an artist, I don’t see an artist letting go of their ego enough to cede to teamwork-based collaboration ever. If you work for Kanye you work for Kanye. If you work for drake you work for drake. There’s no sort of “oh you’re working for Kanye but what’s your thoughts on how this should end up” if you’re not an established artist Kanye respects.

Pop music usually has a s*** ton of more tracks in their sessions comparatively to rap so Idk but this is something that is expected going into it for people more experienced which is why some burn out n quit or try to work their way up to the point of having enough credits as to which they don't have to deal with it

Like we can no longer pretend that behind the bots flipping shoes for 1000$ that there isn't a child putting in the actual labor. Which is why NFTs trend is interesting. Which is why things like Endless or Donda stream showing the creative process and literally sleeping waking up and going right back to it are interesting. We dont get some of the greatest art without pushing ourselves beyond our expectations

the forced labor part gets iffy but if you order something off amazon right now and choose "delivery today"

    you want it today right?

there is a driver, worker, person who made original product. People want things instantly but time is the only thing we have.

As someone who works in food industry this is especially true. Everyone was laughing when they were in 1 hour lines for a chicken sandwich but she says it about art and suddenly everyone is Bernie sanders
