properthe fact that shia entered something like this is kinda tone deaf tho or whatever
But dudes been known to get super into his acting and it’s prolly the same for his writing where he will do anything to make himself better.. even entering contests he prolly shoulda thought twice about
not tone deaf at all, major studios fronted on the script and passed on it so he entered a well respected contest to prove it’s credibility and quality
and now all of a sudden its trending and in the press and people are clamouring for it to get made. chess moves

Festival organizers only discovered LaBeouf was the writer when the judges (led this year by Oscar winner Stephen Gaghan) determined he was a finalist. Granville said that at first she thought it was a hoax — “I thought, that’s tacky,” she said — but the script was just so good.
“The mission behind the festival is about trying to give people a leg up who need help trying to get into the business… and we we’re proud to work with a lot of producers,” Granville said. “That’s something that Shia doesn’t need help with, I’m sure, but we decided long ago that we would judge a script on its merits, regardless of who writes it.”
damn the ppl running this contest basically saying the other contestants submission weren’t even good enough
also shia is technically an emerging writer. he hasn’t written s*** outside of honey boy and that was just writing about his life/some autobiographical s***.
