What are the core differences
There’s a lot, SMT V has no social links, no calendar system, no going to school,
Also there’s less story, watch the trailers and gameplay vids also even if it isnt like persona its still pretty good
fedex saying my order was delivered, but nothing at my door
the truck legit drove right by my place. saw it on the doorbell cam
What are the core differences
No social aspects (no confidants, no calendar system, no general activities with friends), setting is post apocalyptic tokyo, gameplay focused so you'll battle more than in persona games, with a very similar combat system although smt's is usually more deep and refined, darker tone and story while not as present and important as in persona is still there and its progress is bound to moral choices that will get you different endings. I think watching this trailer you can get a good idea of what to expect story wise

Just started amazing so far only thing I don't like is that u don't really feel the impact of the standard attack it just kinda phases through enemies
my dumbass finished the side quest to get asparas but didn't recruit her until after beating the first boss
So we hope you enjoy playing this game half as much
As we enjoyed making it for you, because we had a ball
Only real games are gonna last
All that other bullshit is here today and gone tomorrow"
Spoilers please....don't wanna know who I might fight later....that said this game is od I'm cracked out
The portrait is taking me out
About 7 hours in, I was SEVERELY underestimating just how huge and exploration focused this game would be. So fun just exploring every little crevice for secrets.
Also, the NPC dialogue, level design, and side quests are genuinely amazing. This is the part where most open world(ish) games lose me but they really are nailing it all so far. Side quests are generally very dynamic and packed with great world building.
The first side quest in particular actually had me feeling sympathy for the Pretas. V goes the extra mile in making this feel like an actual, lived-in world in ways that Nocturne and even IV didn’t imo.
So far, the game is meeting my expectations. A proper tech leap over P5 as well. (Switch issues notwithstanding)
There are performance issues and they can be pretty noticeable. But overall the fact that I can play this massive console RPG portably is still a novelty for me. Last night I played for about an hour in handheld mode and loved it still. Comparing it directly to IV is just mind boggling.

agreed with your point on open world(ish) games. think this is a sweet spot for me. every single other open world game i played, i've either dropped or took a long break just because i can't stand open world games at their core. which is why i'm not *super* hyped for elden ring.
everything has been fantastic so far. i will say though, i do kinda prefer the dungeons (over the "open world") & style of the story/progression of 4/4A more than V, but other than those, points, this game is phenomenal. especially on an emulator

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss the abandon buildings/caves/subway systems from IV at times. I’m really looking forward to seeing how they’re going to evolve the level design going forward.
Side tangent how are you feeling about the difficulty curve so far?

no kidding. though i will say, the world is really nice to explore in this. i figure i'd get bored/tired of the sandy/desolate design of it all, but i'm impressed.
as for difficulty, i think it's the easiest out of 3, 4, and 4a. i am playing on normal this first run though. don't think i've had any troubles with any bosses thus far and i'm a decent way into the game. not sure if it's just because i know what to expect in these games or the game is actually just easier than the others.
i guess the game throws a lot of bones at you (the hp/mp/magatsuhi orbs, frequent save points, elemental dampeners are actually so busted for their price -- you can really trivialize most fights, assuming you know which moves bosses have, especially now spyglasses work on bosses too lol). most attempts a boss has taken me has been just two lol.
as i get closer to the end, i hope it gets a bit more difficult. i know the superboss(es?) are stupid hard, but that's a given
