I’m mixed between the game looks good and Persona is killing the soul of Megaten
Do you think the more plastic feel of modern anime aesthetics has to do with it at all? Looking back, the way 80s and 90s anime was produced, using hand drawn and more drab colors contributed to works from that era having a more “human” touch. And the occult, which is SMT’s bread and butter comes across better in that style imo.
SMTIV and V struck a good balance and had beautiful art direction, but also felt like kind of an aesthetic throwback in some ways.

That is exactly what it is. Modern anime aesthetics like with Persona are the bread winner. Weebs love it and it sells. It alienates a lot of core fans who prefer otherwise but the other is the majority now. The grittier feel of the 80s and 90s Megaten aesthetic matched perfectly for occult games. You don’t get that same sense of scary and creepiness with the modern anime looks which is the problem. The direction shifted with Persona 3 and 4 but both maintained it well enough it wasn’t a problem. Persons 5 went full weeb. And I agree with 3DS SMT. It was the perfect mix
Just hit me that all atlus games revolve around personas or demons or whatever the f*** they choose to call them in these different uh universes
do they even make new monsters anymore for these

I never played Soul Hackers 1 but I have always seen character designs and art for the game and I really loved that aesthetic.
I was expecting something similar when I heard talks about a sequel so seeing this really threw me off

yeah I've been seeing that a lot online and I get it but since the new story is taking place decades after the first and Atlus seeming to really want to spin it off from SMT, moving on from the era-appropriate 90s cyberpunk look of the original game made sense.
Damn i feel Atlus is releasing a lot of trailers and announcing well this game, i feel weekly i see sum new bout the game
They even doing the daily demon thingy

Hyped for it tho
did anyone here beat SMTV and think "Wow, this was prolly my favorite game this year" and then see twitter tear it apart lol

i very much enjoyed smt v. has some flaws for sure (particularly the story & easier difficulty), but i had more than enough fun to overlook em.

Same here, I understand that the story and characters weren't handled well but I think the gameplay aspect is really overlooked, honestly the best JRPG I have played from a gameplay standpoint
