i also think theres kind of a difference for current vs past artists. like i dont feel bad about listening to chuck berry cuz hes dead and the s*** is from like 70 years ago

  • No it shouldn't. It's a personal choice. If it effects you, then tune that artist out

Due to recent events, I would like to pose a question to KTT2, it doesn't have to be just music, it can be anything like movies, tv shows, animations etc.

this the thing, alot of times its all cap, people believe one side too quick, just like X, people blamed him but when you know Geneva you understand her madness.

There is a point where u just aren't f***ing with music the same or just have no desire to listen to it anymore

Just depends on what crosses the line, what actually bothers you

It's a personal thing, if it doesn't bother you then it doesn't bother you.

I'm pretty sure though artists shouldn't be boycotted over allegations or some s*** they said in private taken out of context, or some dumb joke they made years ago. People grow up, learn from their mistakes and there are times they're disgusted by the s*** they've said or done. Yes, we should talk about it, yes, we should say it isn't right and bring it to the spotlight and if that person committed a crime they should pay for it. But they can still be very talented in their field or even make statements that are right and can inspire a lot of people and that shouldn't be taken away from them.

I still listen to Kodak Black and Sheck Wes, some homophobic artists, and some older rock stars (David Bowie for example). I don't have a specific standard, for example I don't really listen to Radiohead, Bones, the 1975, or Jpegmafia for reasons that aren't necessarily as severe, especially for Radiohead, as the artists I do listen to. I do try to avoid shouting out/promoting music from problematic artists on here or irl, and avoid listening to music from problematic artists I haven't heard yet.

edit: for what it's worth, I will pirate their music, and don't care if anyone else listens to it or supports it because boycotts will never be effective; as the long as the artist in question produces value for the label they're signed to, they won't face consequences for their actions.

I want to say yes, but I know that I probably wouldn’t be consistent across the board. With someone like Tory, R Kelly, etc, a lot of the times these problematic ass artists weren’t on my radar to begin with so not listening isn’t hard at all

However if Abel got caught up in some f*** s*** I honestly don’t think I’d be able to let that go, I’ve built up way too much of a personal connection to the music to just ditch it like that.

exactly why does someone elses morality dictate what music i want to listen to..

its the music i want to listen to..

  • Sep 25, 2020

I personally feel like it's up to the listener/consumer to make up their own mind and other people should respect that. if some people are able to look past certain things and still enjoy the art, I find it pretty narcissistic and annoying that someone with a different opinion would then try to tell them what they should or shouldn't consume. and it goes the other way as well, if someone doesn't want to support an artist due to background reasons, fans of that artist shouldn't get on them about it. people are capable of coming to their own conclusions.

I have no problem with "cancel culture" as a personal decision, it's only when people judge and try to bully others into thinking as they do that I have a problem with it

  • Sep 25, 2020

i feel like a lot of the time the art is so connected to the artist that it becomes hard to separate the two

the recent rape allegations against sun kil moon are a clear example of this. his music is too personal to be able to treat the art and artist differently in my view

  • Sep 25, 2020

Morality is something that the younger generation won’t know about and it’s really sad. Artists have a huge impact on the youth and the consumers in general so i won’t support by listening rappers like (example) lil pump (which all the little kids listen to), whose music not only is trash but only promotes d**** and w****s, not that other rappers don’t but, you know what i mean.

    Lets be serious.

Niggas like to pick and choose who to "cancel" based on their personal issues with the artists.

There's niggas right now clinching their fingers waiting for an artist they don't like to be "exposed" so people will stop supporting them.

Until people can be objective about artists' morality, it's not gonna work. If an artist commits a crime, they then should be in jail by all means.

But, if they reformed and apologized, who are we to say that they should be permanently cancelled.

Is Miles Davis cancelled? John Lennon? Jimmy Paige? James Brown? Bobby Brown? David Bowie?

Do we really say "Nah. I can't listen to them anymore. They did terrible s***." or do we pick and choose which artists should be cancelled or not.

And the lack of female artists being cancelled shows a bias as well but that's a whole nother thing.
