Also Haïti has foreign peacekeepers (mostly Canadian military and police) on site already.
They're just too busy collecting cheques and "training" local police.
Imagine being born in a sweet little sheltered town in Arkansas or Idaho, something like that.
On the country side, with your parents, siblings & friends. You’ve got a wonderful community. Church-going, great food & sports teams. Everyone in town loves one another.
You live an amazing life, filled with love & mom’s homemade apple pies.
You’re not that smart but you want to see the world. All the beautiful people, places & culture out there.
You make the mistake of mentioning this to an army recruiter in plain clothes, randomly at the supermarket when picking up eggs. He sells you on the idea of seeing the world & getting paid.
“Yeah, it’s a great place called Afghanistan/Vietnam/Haiti. The culture there is great! So is the food & sights to see man!”
Your eyes will meet the eyes of boys your age as well. But they won’t be like yours. They’ll be filled with rage, hunger for freedom & revenge. While yours knew nothing but comfort & love.
That, my friends, is why the U.S lost in Vietnam and Afghanistan. And this is why Haiti would be a mistake.

Should the US move their troops into the country after they assassinated its president whom they installed in the first place?
Yikes....the protestors will not respond well to this at all if it happens

the american protestors?
the american protestors?
I saw videos the morning of the assassination where Haitians were protesting against Biden and the U.S as well as their own president. Wish I could find it again but its buried under the actual news of the President
People don't want imperialists to "stabilize" their country especially considering the already bad history with U.S intervention and occupation

eh
at the end of the day, having a country in complete civil war so close to your border isn't a good thing. creates fertile ground for d*** lords and it'll mean a s*** ton of refugees.
haiti isnt afghanistan, the US can pacify them pretty easily. they should do it bc at this rate, youre gonna end up with a syria right near your shore

Well yeah they're not Afghanistan.... I was hoping your comparison wouldn't be to a country powers have gone to war with for 40 years...
But to think this situation will be "pacified easily" with U.S intervention is extremely naive in 2021. U.S doesn't understand and can't mend the core issues at hand here and they're apart of the reason it exists. They'll add to the anger from citizens not pacify it cmon.
At best a new Moise will be installed and we'll be right back to step 0. U.S doesn't solve problems that's not their goal or strong suit in international relations. Like how many times have we been through this with them and Haiti...

By "they're not afghanistan" I mean that they don't have a strong and extremely religious militia that knows how to fight and they're not halway around the world surrounded by hostile countries to the states that'll supply them with weapons and supplies like in afghanistan
you leave them be and you find yourself with a crumbling state, a civil war and a huge power vacuum right near your borders. installing a ruler or even better forcing them to hold a fair elections is better than that. go look at libya, somalia or iraq. power vacuums are horrible.
