Because the big 3 discussion started during the blog era & originally highlighted the non gangsta rappers who would usher in a new era
Hence why the first ones who were discussed as a big 3 were Cudi, Wale & Drake
They were called “Gangsta Killaz”
Beam Me Up Scotty and Pink Friday wasn’t gangster s*** and was way more popular than Wale. Same with Pluto.
It’s just different music bro, I’m tired of people trying to compare all hip hop
You don’t compare Blink 182 to f***ing Soundgarden
You wouldn’t compare the Pixies to the f***ing Smiths
Like it’s different types of music, I’m tired of these casuals dog

You right, it wasn’t & definitely more popular
but again the ones who created this s*** was XXL & it had less to do with who was the most popular but who has the potential to change the game. At the time they crowned Wale, Cudi & Drake. that s*** took a life of its own as we can see
How did Tyler "dominate" the late 2010s, if I might ask?
“dominate” probably wasn’t the right for me to use lol. but his music did explode in popularity around 2017. got his first mainstream acclaimed album with casual hits. then in 2019 IGOR was considered one of the best of the year. bro was definitely having an amazing run in 2017-2019
but mfs were trying to rewrite history in this thread acting as if he wasn’t a cult rapper in 2011-2016 while the other 3 were dominating mainstream and traditional hip-hop culture. this thread is a perfect example of two things:
1) how much people will try to rewrite history and create a certain narrative that suits their perception of an artist.
2) the disconnect between black and non-black hip-hop fans. I love Tyler but I’m still in shock that folks were/are seriously trying to argue he had as much impact on the culture as the other 3 did. lol they gotta be white

Fair enough.
I don't think it's inaccurate to say that he reached a new commercial peak in the late 2010s. His albums started debuting with better numbers, he scored his first real hit with Earfquake and his albums (starting with Flower Boy in 2017) began getting a lot more critical acclaim. However, none of that equates to dominance of any kind, especially when Drake/Kendrick/Cole had several acclaimed albums/hit records and had multiple commercially successful albums to their respective names at that point.
And you're right about people trying to rewrite history. Tyler has NEVER been seen as the kind of rapper people are all of a sudden trying to insist he is. Didn't he just start claiming hip-hop on his last album? Before then, he'd do everything to remove himself from any/all associations of being referred to as a rapper and his music reflected that so how can someone like that drop one decent rap album and then automatically earn a spot in the leagues of the Drakes and the Kendricks and the Coles who have numerous classic albums/mixtapes/songs to their respective names and have always embraced being called rappers?
This all goes back to people online saying whatever to go viral. No one in the real world is stupid enough to see Tyler in the same league of technical or lyrical ability as Drake/Cole/Kendrick. He simply isn't close to any of them in that regard.
With that being said, if we wanna have a conversation about rappers who have built a brand/following for themselves and have lasted over a decade and are still culturally relevant, that's something Tyler deserves a lot of credit for.
Tyler, Gambino, Travis,
They are a whole different underlying force.
lmao we know what force that is
No but he's having one of the best late career runs rn.
late career? isn’t he like 35?
sorry, i just saw an 80 year old paul mccartney play a 3 hour show so im a little confused as to what “late career” means

Lmao f*** no. If Thug, who was more deserving, never was. What makes you think f***ing Tyler deserves it lmao
No hits, worse rapping, very small impact (barely nobody cares when he drops a feature)
