neither do cole and kendrick
drake stands alone at the top, the last year has proved this

Yup is tyler relative to the coles, kendricks, futures, travis’s and thugs? Id say yes in overall impact but drake eclipses all of them except like kanye
at the end of the day tyler makes music that isn’t going to dominate the airwaves. there are concessions you have to make in order to be that accessible and his music will always be better for not making those concessions.
so he may not crack 200k first week or have songs in rotation on the radio that a rap fan that leans more towards mainstream or street music will listen to consistently, but he excels in other ways that a lot of people can’t.
one of the biggest ways his impact and success is shown is by him consistently touring arenas and influencing and opening the door for a lot of artists that have found huge success (steve lacy, kali uchis, vince staples and more have gotten their start via tyler directly or the fanbase he fostered with OF)
What he lacks in ultra hits he makes up by having what is by the far the largest, rabid fanbase in all of hip hop.
Having 200 casual listeners is cool but having 100 super stans is equally as impressive and it equals out.
It’s why he always goes no 1 and sells out arenas

exactly, outside of kanye, jay-z and dr. dre i can’t think of many artists from hip-hop that have successfully been able to establish multiple brands outside of music like tyler has.
and that’s due in part to his relationship with his fanbase and how they’re willing to buy in to what he’s presenting.
the fact that dude was able to make three tv shows and one of them be really successful with loiter squad getting three seasons, on top of the golf clothing doing really well, that’s really exceptional stuff.
also idk if anybody has mentioned that tyler was instrumental in making pop-up shops a thing in hip-hop and he was one of the first rappers to create their own festival, which eventually became the norm. drake and murs are the only guys i can think of that did it before him.
I want elitism back, I miss when it was okay to just say certain niggas don't get an opinion. Twitter niggas are pedestrians.
tyler is not good bro
he's doesn't make radio hits, he doesn't make deep cuts, he doesn't make music that makes you go like or
I get the odd future appeal it was cool back then but at this point it seems like tyler including his fans keep trying to push this narrative that he should be more respected!
exactly this. mfs are arguing in terms of who they like more and who’s still on top now but that s*** does NOT matter. it’s about cultural impact. time is a factor as well
Kendrick, Drake and Cole came in and dominated rap for the whole 2010s decade. Tyler just dominated the late 2010s, there’s a difference. Its also why I wouldn’t put Ye in this category either, his impact on the culture started years before all of them
How did Tyler "dominate" the late 2010s, if I might ask?

He should definitely get more credit as a producer and for building out the career he's built for himself extending beyond just music. But Tyler doesn't make better music than those 3 and he doesn't have a stronger overall catalog than them. His catalog doesn't even come close. Each of those guys have classic verses/songs/moments, simple s*** like that which Tyler severely lacks. I don't get this thing where people can't give one person their credit without s***ting on other people.

his production really isn't that great
Yes, he can self produce but its basically pharrell clone music.
He has lasted this long so he doing something right I just dont see why we gotta place him in the same line as drake and kendrick! He is respected enough I don't think we need to d*** ride anymore than we have to... lol

Yeah, I can't say his production stands out to me but I was talking more in life of him getting more credit for producing most of his s***.
He definitely deserves credit for his longevity but Drake along with Kendrick/Cole will always be in a different tier and rightfully so. Nothing is changing that perception.
