Singing on the hook, not during the verses like any of the rappers I mentioned. Damn came out after all this “big 3” nonsense started. How many grades have you repeated in your lifetime?

I said doesn’t sing like, as “in comparison to” not never sung ever. Is English your first language?

So go edit your post to say "Kendrick sings less than Drake, Nicki, and Future" if that's what you meant

Very insightful post brother. Keep them coming

I would say yes, but there's just one point of contradiction

Tyler makes music on par with those 3, but the cultural relevancy of said music is nowhere near on par with the relevancy of the 3's music. That's the only thing keeping Tyler out of that conversation tbh

exactly this. mfs are arguing in terms of who they like more and who’s still on top now but that s*** does NOT matter. it’s about cultural impact. time is a factor as well

Kendrick, Drake and Cole came in and dominated rap for the whole 2010s decade. Tyler just dominated the late 2010s, there’s a difference. Its also why I wouldn’t put Ye in this category either, his impact on the culture started years before all of them

    Htownwolf

Only cacs have tyler in that convo

tbh. Tyler spent most of the 2010s trying to distance himself from the conventional aspects of hip-hop/black music culture. now niggas are tryna argue that he was the face of it the whole time

  • Jun 13, 2022

    obviously

the idea of an artist in their late 20s-early 30s having a "late career" run is crazy

it seems like some people on this site expect artists to be totally finished creatively once they hit like 35

there are def some young mfs on this site who don’t know what they’re talking about lol but pointing out the “late career” run of an artist is completely valid when you consider how the music industry works. it’s not really built for artists to have long-lasting careers. the youth runs the market and dominates what’s popular. then they grow up and the next generation determines the new set of trends and artists that are popular

I feel like a lot of ppl on this site take this for granted but artists who have 10+ years at the top and still maintain their hype with the young crowd into their 30s and 40s are anomalies, not the norm.

Going by how long they’ve been in the game and the standards of how the industry works, everybody being mentioned in this thread - Drake, Kendrick, Cole, Tyler - should all be considered washed up by the GP but they aren’t. they are all still enjoying A+ status and they are all incredibly respected by the young kids who weren’t nearly as affected by their previous work as most of us here were. This is why all these men are legendary. 2x so in the case of Kanye who is 20 years into his career and still releasing top-selling albums

Idgaf how you feel about Kendrick, Drake, Cole, Tyler, etc. individually, we HAVE to give them all their due for maintaining their relevancy this long in such a fickle industry

  • Jun 13, 2022

the kendrick drake Cole conversation isn’t even a question of who the best is anymore, it’s just three names that have been thrown around for so long that people can’t comprehend any other names in that vein.

i think their names also are associated with universal accessibility, something that artists that should be in the conversation (future, thug, keef, nicki, tyler) probably lack. No one’s gonna say it outright, but they’re also associated with “real hip hop” and keeping the tradition alive. Which anyone who actually spends time with the genre knows is bs, but it’s a difficult thing to explain to someone who isn’t familiar with the different forms.

Tyler has knocked off basically all the requirements to be in the conversation. It has to do more with his audience and his presentation that causes skepticism than what he’s accomplished. Because if it’s just his accomplishments we’re talking about, he’s no doubt on the level of anyone rn.

This idea of a big 3 was only made because Kenny and Cole rap “traditionally” in contrast to Drake, Nicki and Fewtch.

No the big three started with Wale, Cudi & Drake

They were the face of the young new faces after gangsta rap era deemed by xxl

it slowly morphed into Cole, Kendrick, Drake, Wale

which eventually became just the Big 3 as we know them
