Another unusual omission. Would have guessed Mauvais Sang or Lovers would have made the list. From what I remember they eventually release a top 250 tho?
mauvais sang and lovers on the bridge was what I hoped for, but even though I've been sitting here talking about how films usually have a marination period before hitting the list, I was actually betting on a holy motors entry, since it's so universally loved by le film watcheurs. I haven't seen any critic really s*** on it. that was perhaps the biggest surprise of all to me
some people post rajamouli's votes as a meme, but honestly, I respect the honesty and staying true to yourself
On the restoration aspect, the omission of Erich von Stroheim's Greed was vehemently disappointing. The release of it was perhaps maddening that they butchered the film entirely from the monstrous 8-hour cut. Years later you can only view in the theatrical form or the TCM reconstruction which it's 4 hours. It may seem extremely difficult to restore it even falls in the area of speculation. You can see it on Youtube and occasionally air it on TCM channel among other silent classics never be restored. The film's placement prior to 2012 where oldheads place it and shows that Greed was a butchered masterpiece and defined cinema in one of the seven deadly sins.

Kung Fu Panda
My post-2012 pick would have been Pacific Rim.
Just shove that s*** into the top 10.
Kick out Tokyo Story, tap in Pacific Rim.
For some reason I thought Tree of Life was going to crack the top 10. I would have preferred Days of Heaven at least making the list..
as long as marty is alive we can expect the leopard to be on the list
at least one delon film
biggest surprises was that fritz lang's M and laughton's the night of the hunter climbed up in ranking

Resnais and Wenders should have made the list too
Resnais and Wenders should have made the list too
je t'aime je t'aime is a banger ass film
night & fog is one of the most important films ever made, almost to the point where it'd be disrespectful to put it in a ranking list
Where’s that from?
I believe those art Marty’s picks for this list
I think you can see what every director chose
How is that goofy?? I’ll watch pulp fiction over citizen Kane any day of the week
Pulp Fiction onehundredpercent deserves to be here
I’m just speaking objectively, and based on impact
So does The Social Network or Fight Club
So does The Empire Strikes Back
Jaws probably does
The Wizard of Oz
I think when you’re compiling a list of the greatest films of all time, you should take at least some consideration for what is iconic in the culture
I feel like people calling totoro simple dont give it enough credit. The whole seed planting sequence and the atom bomb tree is so beautiful and poetic.
especially w the theme of children’s imaginations becoming real life hopes and fears, which can then be manifested into real life events. plus the context of Japan moving forward from wwii. Thinking about the music from that scene can get my bumps goosed on command
💯 You see the vision
People write it off as a kids movie but it’s one of the quintessential movies about kids
