I haven't fully read it myself. It's inpenetrable and that's why i don't think ''big brain intellectual'' is the right way to describe it. It's not aiming for anything big or pretentious. It is simply the film version of the book. It's disjointed, it has no clear purpose and it was written by a junkie who was smacked on all the d**** he could get his hands on all the time. It just couldn't turn out anything else than an incomprehensible mess. A mess, that i do adore should i add

Okay I've read some books like that and if it's a literary classic and I find it impenetrable then I usually give the author the benefit of the doubt that it's too big brain for me. Happens with films occasionally too.

That writer was high out of his mind the entire time, it's just a diary of the fantasies of a junkie lmao that's really all there's to it

Aleister Crowley influenced many things in the esoteric world and has written many inpenetrable dense texts full of knowledge

But he was also on a looooot of d**** the entire time, and it's clear that some of the texts were a victim of those states he was in where it may sound like something makes sense, but at the end of the day there's nothing of value to be found

Not that i would say there's nothing of value in Naked Lunch. I love what Cronenberg did with it... but the book itself got it's notoriety because of how edgy it was.. not because it was some big brain s***
