Couldn't find a single thread about the show which shocked me and i'm rewatching it so had the need to discuss it/share some stuff with other ppl...

I 100% recommend it! I'm sure you already heard a lot about the ending but I gotta say, the hype is real

Man there hasn't been anything like it ever since... Do have any recommendations on similar shows? Closest I've seen is, outside of Alan Ball's other work, probably Leftovers, Rectify and would even say Haunting of the hill house lmao

lmao i was gonna say leftovers but then you mentioned it already.

honestly it's hard to find anything comparable to it, leftovers probably the closest tho

i got the boxset many years ago and been rewatching it yearly but I'm gonna take a break this year cause its a heavy ass show and it def pulls you down with it if you let it consume you

yea nate probably my fav tv show character can relate to his internal struggles and yearnings so much

I'd say season 5 is def closer to that s1 and s2 feeling if you know what i mean

i think i would go like:

    s2
    s5
    s1
    s3
    s4

s4 def the weakest, amongst fans and critics alike
s3 somewhere in the middle (season finale is goat)

but s1 and s2 have this special feel to them man, and s5 brought that back in a way.

    hbu?

Damn man my ranking is the exact same lmao but yeah it's like you said Season 5 is closer to the first two season and i think it's because the focus is almost entirely on the family dynamic again if you know what i mean, also the daydreaming/hallucinations scenes are back stronger then ever lol

Season 3 holds a special place and i think the first few episodes and the seasons final are top tier but somewhere in the middle there's a slight lost of focus imo.

I love when the characters get all together on dinners/birthdays and the majority of the episode is just them interacting and having a good time (or not). It's just feels so real and human, makes me miss my family dinners (never thought i would say that).

Also finished watching this episode and completely forgot how GREAT this scene is

Love how the show almost represents by each family member a different stage of life... I'm 22 and i really identify with Claire's journey. Also did one year on art school a few years ago and f*** it's exactly like it was in the show, like dead on, the pretentious teacher especially...

yea s3 gets a fair share of hate for introducing lisa as a main character and leaving brenda out of the picture for like the first half of the season.
but still i never hated lisa like other people did anyway, watching her and nates dynamic with the baby is interesting to watch..

and yea you nailed one of my favorite aspects of the show and why i rank it so highly: its just so real, it feels real and by the end of it you really feel like you just left your family behind, that you really know these people and you feel for them.

among my fav scenes of the show are scenes where we get characters sharing screentime together that we normally wouldn't see (like billy and george at nates 40th birthday party for example)
or just these little moments and scenes between the siblings or between ruth and claire they all just feel like you get a view into a real life family like the camera isn't even on lmao

could ramble about this show forever lmfao

but yea to your nate point:
i can def. relate to his eternal restlessness and just never being satisfied/happy with his current situations and how life pans out
and just this yearning for something deeper, something beyond.

u know he was def a very spiritual character to me.
and his death scene was just like damn he was really happy to move on from this life right here
he happily jumped into these waves with no hesitation...

no doubt twin peaks a whole masterpiece as well

but true after i watched SFU nothing came close to the depth of that show ever since, at least for me
i doubt nothing ever will again because i mean the show is about life/death itself so it really doesn't get realer than that.

another aspect of the show that i love is how you relate more to certain characters depending on what age or time in your life you are at when you watch it
before i didn't really realize how much i can realte to david as well(gay thing aside lol)

a show that just keeps on giving with age.
    truly a work of art

That's how I felt after rewatching the wire, hadn't seen it in 7 years and I had a greater appreciation because my worldview had changed. Can def see myself being able to relate to this more on rewatch!
