third reissue of Crater Speak book subtitled "Notes on Erasure" out now. their saying this is the "concluding" edition of the book so possibly last chance to cop 🫵🏼

only have first edition but it's a super interesting art book and highly recommended to fans of Arthur Jafa or Kahlil Joseph

we live on nts.live, 2h session. I doubt anyone on ktt is into this lowkey lol we're going deep on the sustained notes and ultra minimalist avant-garde classical

rly lovely sound bath for a sweaty heat wave day for me 🧖🏼‍♂️

opening the set with 8 different versions of this La Monte Young piece Composition 1960 #7, looking it up it's the most Slauson-core s*** lmfao

The Compositions 1960 are a set of text-based musical pieces written in 1960 by composer La Monte Young. Building on the work of John Cage, these pieces are unique in their emphasis on performance art and unconventional actions, such as releasing a butterfly into the room (#5), building a fire in front of the audience (#2), or pushing a piano into a wall (Piano Piece for Terry Riley #1). These compositions have been described as calling into question the definition of music.

    #7

This is the most popular of the Compositions 1960. In #7, the entirety of the score consists of two whole notes: a B3 and F#4, and the instruction "To be held for a long Time." Any number and combination of instruments may play this piece, so long as the instructions are carried out.

  • yh I get why he considers this his fav, extremely special and big balls move to go this minimal for a 2h mix. super hypnotic even trippy listen, feels like a recalibration.

also revisited his Alice Coltrane tribute mix which is also beautiful and the Pauline Oliveros bit in the middle feels almost like a test run for the new mix now

he continues being one of the most inspiring DJs to me, literally expanding my expectations of what you can do with a mix. love this more immersive direction after his start with these very essayistic mixes
