thinking about the whole scene rn, and they really made history right when everybody was locked down and COVID struck. an entire new group of artists made their way from having a small but dedicated fanbase, to blowing up on the internet and having labels knocking at their door, all at ages 13-23

hyperpop is an okay name, but i really hope it never becomes a genre (not that it ever has been), b/c if so, then it'll die out quick, kinda like how dubstep did. it's a weird and kinda pointless umbrella term, jumbling a bunch of loosely connected artists that barely sound alike (does oblivion sound anything like say a SOPHIE or A.G Cook beat? does glaive make "hyper" pop?) i guess it's much better than glitchcore and it has helped them make money cause of spotify and gain recognition, but it's such a misleading title--half of them heavily rap, and the other half make pop music w/ their own twist

So who made the original hyperpop playlist? Somebody who works at Spotify that f***ed with the scene?

the playlist existed since 1000 gecs released, but they started to get put onto it and became what it is today around june or july, the editors caught whiff of it and added them to it (think its explained better in the NYT article). now it largely centers around them

no he wasnt hacked at all, he's known for this type of lame behavior. His manager dropped him too and all his Lyrical Lemonade articles are getting removed
