not everything’s about “hits” anyway, guy made some good music that got him through some s***. it’s a good album.
So big Sean’s problem was that his career was pure “hit based” and no substance. Ass, Marvin and Chardonnay, IDFWU, My last, and that reputation completely drowned his merits as a rapper
At this point, his career diagnosis suggest that what he needed was to solidify himself as an actual rapper that bars up, tells stories, etc. to solidify that base. That’s what’s going to carry him because basing your career off of chart topping records is an exhaustive thing.
And I think he done that. D2 was very well received, and it was a number one record selling over 100k first week during a pandemic when every form of entertainment is competing with each other for eyeballs and ears
He’s also been on a tonnn of features and albums this year too.
KTT is forever out the loop when it comes to relevance. This album was important for Sean’s career direction wise

He doesn’t need hits anymore
He probably capped at a 150k-200k first week kind of act which is completely fine.
How many rappers right now who’ve been in the game 10 years, debuted during Sean’s era can break 100k 1st week in a pandemic? With no hit?
Real question

I always thought his career would ir been different if he went ahead and dropped Detroit as an album instead of hall of fame like they were thinking of at first.
Perception of Sean would be way different. He has substance btw, His albums always have more introspective and conscious tracks. Even finally famous does.

Oh no I agree, I’m a Sean guy heavy. So Much More is off his debut and its full of substance and introspection. He’s always been a way better rapper than given credit for
I’m just saying that for perception wise, he needed a studio album that was full of rapping and not corny singles for radio which I think he accomplished with D2
whats even the last big sean hit
Marvin & Chardonnay If we being honest
Marvin & Chardonnay If we being honest
Idfwy?
Sean rapping boring s*** now.
This album was ok, but it definitely is on the "came and went " album list.
I see allot of people hatin on Sean but truth is he’s been in them Grande Guts & that Jhene Gina
& they ain’t
if harder than my demons was actually finished with more JB on the outro it’d be a hit
Factssssss. That joint gives me "Nice for what" vibes but the song is just too damn short.

Cool story. He still hasn't had a hit in nearly 4 years which means his next album won't sell over 100k because the sequal gimmick won't be there

Leif got a lot of nerve for someone who was coping through Ty$'s flop singles
"Its #127 on Radio Air Play! I think he got one"
