Had a long post typed out and deleted it. All I’ll say is this. A lot of y’all don’t have the credentials to even really understand why some of this music is literally a plague because you don’t come from the environments or households it effects the most and what you can’t relate to you won’t get. Teenagers are impressionable from a multitude of perspectives. I’m not saying blame all rap music for poor life decisions. But to act as if the music doesn’t have influence is hilarious the way some of y’all are acting itt as if it’s a reach
at the end of the day it should come from family. user made a good example with the older cousins but it's more than that. dads, uncles, older brothers, etc should all be the ones
they alienated the youth musically. strictly when it came to the music. and I can't blame them for that because that happens every other year dam near. I mean look at some of the stuff that people say about these new rappers on here
It should come from family but when the family f***ed up then what?
And that’s been the age old argument since the 80s lol. The difference is (and they on record hated it too) back then you had rappers like Chuck D, Pac, etc.
Who’s the equivalent of that in 2023?
And it shouldn’t be that way i agree but rappers be reaching these kids in places they f***ed up families couldnt
And ppl arguing that rock/white genres dont get this same flack just expose how much yall dont know about music.
Elvis was getting BASHED for being a bad influence on these rebellious white kids listening to his “niggajacent” music lmao
For being on a music forum I feel like some of ya downplay just how impactful and influential music can be lol
i admit i listened to young thug and wore dresses back in 2016 after learning he wore it cuz he had a stick i felt ashamed and deceived..
so yes, i think it's a bad influence..

They’ll go on and on about how some album changed their life or got them through a break up or depression but then swear it can’t impact violence
its tricky but ultimately some people are WAY more foolish than impressionable than others, and when u have these people killing or robbing innocent people it becomes bigger than being about the criminal. Ultimately the system is in place to isolate these often black youth. White people believe in that s*** and tbh its horrible how prison and the court systems here work but as long as we are associated with crime they wont budge.
if u rly think about it hip hop has gone quite a long way in perpetuating our suffering as a whole
edit: i thought about this a lil more an tbh i think while hip hop does make other races look at us funny, its not rly our problem why others are racist, we gotta just live the lives we were meant to live, hip hop is great music, if no one else understand it they can suck a d***. An tay k didnt kill that old man cus of hip hop, he did it cus he a psychopath lmao, that s*** aint cus of no damn music
an tbh i think people got the wrong idea about how we go about fixing this. rapping about smoking weed, drinking lean, popping pills, even guns an s*** is obv not good influence but the way u actually go about promoting these ideas is different than just talking about them. u can rap about whatever but u can make it clear where ur boundaries are, ok yea i have a song about a gun but im not talking about robbing people or shooting opps im talking about self defense, or im talking about ecstacy but im also talking about how it made me feel like s*** the next day, like u can keep it real about these topics and still hit the same nerve while not promoting dumb s***
ultimately these kids is around d**** and guns an they gonna try them at some point most likely. we need artists like nas who can talk about that s*** but from a smarter perspective
I think u give kids opportunities to make money legally that changes EVERYTHING (not like kid kids but like highschool/college age kids)

Oh y’all get it
be a better role model for yo cousin nigga
if you end up killing people and trying hard d**** due to music, im inclined to say that’s natural selection at work
I’m kinda like this too.
Like, to me, if a song gets you riled up enough to do something stupid, then it was only a matter of time before something else would do it instead.
Like, that’s a problem with you and your impulse control at that point, the music is only marginally to blame at most
