the battles of Say you will for the next generation going to be the new ....
vs.
even though I prefer Ye's say you will, drake was floating on the beat. plus he had one of my favorite lines
"'Cause I just seen my ex-girl, standing with my next girl
Standing with the girl that I'm f***in' right now"
Kanye influenced him to put that in the song technically, since some of y’all like to pin down influence as being a carbon copy
Beyond that tho obviously Ye produced tracks for Wayne in C3 era, the leaked C3 to me seems like it was supposed to be Wayne making his version of Blueprint, which is Wayne’s obvious Jay influence but with that came a lot of Kanye influenced sample beats and him reaching out to Kanye for a few. La La La, Something You Forgot, Help, etc don’t happen in a universe without Kanye imo
C3 in no way shape or form is like blueprint at all
C3 in no way shape or form is like blueprint at all
I clearly said the C3 leaks
as far as the overall sound, sure drake did it better,
but if we’re talking Say you Will vs Say what’s real? nah man I’m taking a 100% original song over rapping over someone else’s beat anyday
im taking 100% owiginal song ova wappin ova som1 elses beet anydae
saying “lol soul samples” is a very lazy comparison
He also reached out to Kanye for tracks, that shows that his sound had an influence on Wayne and it was something he wanted in his work. And I didn’t only name soul samples, but the prominent vocal samples in general

its cool bro, I know I have it coming sometimes
This argument again lol
808s --> sfg/Take care --> Hob is what created the whole moody rnb sound of today

wayne has been rapping on soul samples since the hot boyz era...
And theres a clear difference between just singing on a track like rnb and the singing that was done on 808s and sfg
808s isnt rnb

It isnt at all, its definitely more pop, but theres no denying it has rnb elements to it

Yeah but not the same kind. Something You Forgot isn’t a soul sample it’s just the chipmunk effect on a rock song but I don’t think it happens in a world without Kanye. Wayne wasn’t rapping over Beatles tracks in the 90s. Kanye’s influence wasn’t really about soul samples but specifically sped up, prominent vocal samples that hadn’t really been done before

You’re right in a way, but pop is really just a form of r&b anyway

Kanye isn’t the sole reason why wayne hopped on soul samples period, if anything without Jay those soul samples never get any sort of traction period

I’m a little confused why you keep going back to soul samples when I made the distinction twice that it’s not just soul samples. Of course Jay is why it got hot but it was Kanye’s sound, you can’t write him out of it influence wise. Again imo, if you call Kanye and get beats from him that’s a form of influence in itself, add to that the fact a lot of his other beats at the time were Kanye type beats and it’s pretty clear he was moved by the Blueprint sound which Kanye is a big part of
Also who said influence has to mean “being the sole reason”? That’s a limited definition of influence, no one is the sole reason for anything really
that would make you the first,
confirming you’re trying hard
HOB a completely different conversation & if you can’t see that you shouldn’t be talking
Lol ok literally this was the conversation in the other thread
