Kendrick is kinda like ranking KD top 2-3 in the NBA. Everyone knows it's his place but when you're out for the year (or in Kendrick's case 3 years), it's not relevant to include him until he comes back.

Except he is literally right now streaming/ being talked about more than gunna right now lol. He just doesn’t have an album. His numbers are still better.

One of the two is true.

Either,

(1) Music is subjective.

Or,

(2) Music is not subjective.

If (1) is the case, then 3/4s of our discussions are utter stupidity. Most conversation on here is "X is great/good/bad/suck/the worst/the best", and if thesis (1) is true, this conversation is noise. It doesn't, cannot, mean anything at all. You could say "I perceive X to be..." and perhaps this discussion would be useful, but this is typically not the case.

If (2) is the case, one can presumably say that one artist is objectively better than another artist. If (2) is the case, then what we do largely makes sense. Flow, lyrics, beats, it can all be quantified, and if not quantified we can at least identify the attributes that are "good". If this is the case, don't say "music is subjective" when you can no longer defend your opinion. The logical consequence of this is that there should be a hierarchy that can be made of artists, truly crowning one as the goat.

But you cant have both. This is what I’m attempting to say dude

That’s what’s up but that’s not my point, it’s the fact that he already did. And even after that, he was the most talked about hip hop artist before dojas coonery because of the news that he had became a billionaire

More streams and mentions sure.

But actual relevance in the current state of the game and influencing where the sound is going, I don't think so

I'd argue he's setting the tone with Thug, Future and Lil Baby. All 4 pretty much have a strangehold on a certain sound that is dominating the game right now.

That’s where we differ, I don’t think quality is subjective when theirs a majority consensus. When there’s a majority consensus on something it has to be a fact. This goes back to when humans first began matching words with objects.

If quality is subjective like you believe then personally I see a majority of conversation on this site to be utterly useless and futile

To me influence doesn't necessarily birthing other rappers. Dominating your lane or setting the bar is a form of influence. It'd be like ignoring DaBaby's place in the game because he's pretty much a modern T.I. with the way he raps.

btw I don't have Gunna in my top 5. I'd defo rank Future and Thug ahead
