okay, well there’s a name for that when it’s about addiction or other things out of one’s control such as mental illnesses or physical disabilities — ableism

They have never been addicted to d**** to know the perils and struggle it entails. And the deeper reasons behind why addiction happens to some people in the first place.

i’m confused. so you’re saying you’d like poor people to stay poor?

  • those "addiction prevention/inspirational recoveries" type of seminars and programs focus more on bashing addicts and scare stories.
    kids kinda internalize that.

and then you realize how badly these people were neglected by the system and what actually led them to addiction. and maybe that an addict isn't just some boogieman in a dark alley, but could be anybody with enough weight on their shoulders

    Three reasons:

    • there’s a ‘lacking self control’ narrative along with it, which you can take that how you may. It’s why I won’t be on a high horse about making fun of d*** addicts (even tho I personally don’t), cause we’re all guilty of berating people for a perceived lack of self control with anything. And in such a “pull up by the bootstraps” society, ofc addiction will be seen in such a light
    • the association with crime and just general illegality makes it seem amoral and unnecessary, hence why people feel comfortable and justified in judging
    • the imagery of d*** addicts can be hilarious, as dark as that sounds. Like we’ve all seen the belligerent crackheads in front of liquor stores

But all of this doesn’t take into account how tragic and horrific d*** addiction can truly be. Ofc people don’t notice, given these reasons make it easy to dehumanize people suffering from d*** addiction

    I make fun of coomers

  • May 27, 2021

Ppl look at celebrities like free lunch

  • maybe i’m just sensitive af but this is also how i feel about making fun of fat people in a way.

we’ve normalized eating really unhealthy foods and that turns into such a strong addiction that is amazingly difficult to break.

I think we should be able to make fun of anything and everything but there’s a line i draw where it becomes so callous and cruel that it crosses lines

it's recognised as an illness in medical fields and it truly is.

“but i understand everyone can’t be rich” is a roundabout way of saying “poor people need to exist”, aka you support keeping poor people poor

nope. I dont. I support class mobility. I have no problem with someone born poor getting scholarships to go to college or learning a trade etc. dont strawman me.

everyone cant be rich meaning economic classes need to exist.

And nobody walks around like “its actively good and necessary to mock these people” its very obvious why someone would make fun of an addict especially one in public, they detest these people and view them as lesser

Lots a people like to laugh at people who are down bad in life. I think you can make fun of everything in life but it's f***ed up to kick someone while they down.

Thats a good way to put it, there’s a balance to strike

I don’t begrudge anyone cracking jokes about me being a degenerate because thats exactly what I was, and honestly s*** can be simultaneously funny and sad and maybe not right to say at certain moments but passable in others
