Social Democracy and social liberalism are 2 popular ideologies
They both pride in the state regulating markets and having a welfare state, but arrive at it in different directions
Social liberalism was devised like this:
1.Believing people should be free
2. Removing constraints to freedom
3. Realising that starvation, lack of education and poverty limit how truly free you are
4. Supporting state involvement to improve people ability to be free
Social democracy:
1. Workers should own the means of production
2.capitalism produces wealth and efficiency
3. Better to keep the market but use the state to redistribute the gains
Social Democratic ideals:
-Universal Healthcare
-Workers rights
-Civil Rights legislation
-Trade Union activity
Social Liberal ideals:
-Welfare states
-Drug decriminalisation
-Legalisation of s***work
-Immigration
-Universal basic income
Social liberalism sees state involvement as a way to achieve freedom, because in a free for all we won't be truly free, it emerged after 19th century liberalism helped cause growth but didn't ensure freedom for the poorest. Classical liberals reapproached their ideology and therefore developed New liberalism.
Social democracy originated among socialists who accepted the markets and capitalism as a necessary evil, but sought to use the welfare state to gain worker power.
Achievements of these ideologies:
In my opinion these are the 2 best ideologies ever as they have fused the massive benefits of capitalism with the means to ensure the poor arent f***ed- THE BEST OF BOTH WORLD
tl;dr: the perfect ideologies
so diet Socialism
Diet coke is better for you than full sugar...
socialism is flawed, social democracy takes the best of both systems
Thanks for this thread @op
I know this ain’t the greatest but stats show that the best countries in the world utilise these systems so it’s fair for everyone high mobility class

im inclined to agree but both are good

Depending on how this thread goes, i will add objections and how a soc lib/ soc dem would respond

anyone thinks that revolution would work is a moron
i am aussie so we sorta have some socdem polices (medicare and welfare system is strong) through they slowly defunding it over time
how are they different? They seem to be relatively the same
they arrive at similar conclusions
soc dems started as disillusioned socialists, soc libs started as disillusioned classical liberals
"Workers rights" - not a stance
Civil Rights legislation - not a stance
Trade Union activity - not a stance
D*** decriminalisation - should he legal not just decriminalized
Legalisation of s***work - iffy
Immigration - not a stance
Universal basic income - terrible idea

social liberals tend to be less harsh on capitalism and a bit more laissez faire, and also a bit more socilly forward thinking due to the root in liberalism
