I'm thinking the entire Muslim world in aggregate. Are there big differences between regions?

indeed. the levant is largely more secular than, say, afghanistan or morocco or yemen

Interesting. Why is north Africa more conservative than the Levant?

Saudi essentially went from highly theocratic monarchy to ancapistan
Syria became a vaguely secular society accentuated by a racial caste system
Most of the ME itself is def more secular
North Africa the only place that became less so except like maybe Tunisia

a few updates on what's happening in Chhattisgarh

The demands of the event were:

    ● STOP the violation of mandatory Gram Sabha under the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996 (PESA).

    ● SCRAP undemocratic and anti-people amendments in Forest Conservation Act, 1980.

    ● STOP the forceful grabbing of Adivasi lands and displacement of Adivasi peasants.

    ● STOP massive militarization of mineral-rich regions through hundreds of paramilitary camps in a bid to intensify corporate loot via carpet security.

    ● STOP genocide of Adivasi peasants in the form of fake encounters, aerial bombings, bogus arrests, forced fake surrenders, sexual violence etc.

    ● Implement PESA and 5th & 6th Schedule in Adivasi areas.

    ● STOP targeting of democratic progressive organisations and individuals in the name of conspiracy theories such as “urban Naxals” and “Naxalism of the pen.”

The fact that that this is forced on these workers and this is something they have to fight against is insane

they need to take the ALU route and form an independent union. one of the worst things about my time working as a union bueracrat in the south is that s*** like this would happen at a non-union plant or restaurant and some s***ty union like SEIU would swoop in with the local DNC politicians to ruin everything.

    Has anybody seen this film?

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xiu_Xiu:_The_Sent_Down_Girl

Apparently there is a prolific rock band called Xiu Xiu and they were inspired by this film from 1999

I find myself up against a few pieces of media that are critical of China's Cultural Revolution (this and nexflix's new show 3 Body Problem) but I don't just wanna stick my fingers in my ears and pretend they don't exist.

Mao did the unthinkable and actually transformed his country away from feudalism, monarchism, imperialism and the worst aspects of capitalism. Western countries don't have the balls for this and the US especially would be difficult due to the firearms and Nazis.

The ability to execute a CEO for say poisoning a water supply would be a huge deterrent so it never happens again as compared to a fine by the EPA that the company just eats and continues poisoning the marine life and people over and over again.

Anywho, I am still intrigued by this movie lol.

Just wondering if its Western boosted anti-commie propaganda art or actually good

(was debating posting this in a film chat thread but I thought this might be a better place for heady discussion of this nature)

the best thing to watch in terms of the cultural revolution is the documentary How Yukong Moved The Mountains but you should also read Mobo Gao's book on the topic

Furthermore, the villagers highlight a crucial distinction between opposing development outright and objecting to the manner in which development is executed. In the case of road widening, for example, they argued that such projects primarily serve the interests of corporations rather than addressing the genuine needs of the community.

same thing said by some Indigenous nations in Canada, funny how the media portrays opposition to specific harmful development as an irrational act that makes the group opposed to all forms of "progress"

    libs just call them nimbys

They’re just different episodes. Each explores a different aspect of life during the GPCR, and you don’t need to watch them chronologically or in quick succession. Each episode is self contained
