PlightAllying with the USSR was highly positive. It enabled them resources to build stuff and feed the population. After the USSR got dissolved is when stuff really got bad. If they want to be an independent country the USA will starve them no matter what so what else is their choice? Go back to being a w****house-plantation-casino island?

These french election results... LOL. When I was reading Meisner on China, what always jumped out to me was Maos faith in the people. A feeling completely alien to me. I have absolutely zero faith in them. No copium about well THIS demographic or THAT country is different. Maybe "communism or barbarism" was a real question in the early 20th century, but today it looks to me like the die's already been cast.
