Hey guys, idk if this is the right place to post here but I'd like to learn about Brazil. One it looks beautiful but I'd mainly like to learn about its politics, civilian life etc. IIRC they're a socialist state or soon to be? This isn't my wheelhouse lol
Any good sources?
Thanks

Not sure about your intentions with focusing on Brazil, but the only thing I can input into this discussion is to read this book to understand a macro level view of the continent itself. It does go into a bit about Brazil, there are a few case studies within it. I'm not home right now but if you ping me tomorrow I can pull some quotes it has on Brazil.

Keep in mind this is information from the 1990s, so it may not be that modern information you want, and you may be better suited in reading a book specifically about Brazil, but nevertheless I think it may be somewhat valuable depending on your goals.

Overall w Brazil, I've wanted to learn about the Diaspora. I'm almost complete with our part as Negro Americans and West Africans. Next is Brazil and moving into Central, South America then resting on the Islands.
I've really wanted to start with filmmaking and the arts but outside of films ie your avi (my fav film oat btw) and maybe Black Orpheus, Afro Brazilian cinema is far and few between.
Then there's Pele.
can't wait to watch his documentary

Oh you're wanting to learn via cinema? No idea specifically about Brazil. Try out the film section and Letterboxd they may be able to help you out more

Here's a pretty good vid on Jair Bolsonaro the current president of Brazil.
Brazil is not a socialist or near socialist state but a pretty cookie cutter right wing capitalist state
Socialism is bad and not good and capitalism is good because there is more freedom of choice for me

damn why the change of heart? Is this the moderate centrist radical liberal thread now?

Just go on Letterboxd and filter by films where Portuguese is spoken

I don't like the pill d***le flavor. However, I like the Jelly flavor. The invisible hand of the market decides which flavor gets the market share.
