good troll would have been gaslighting people by praising pol pot or trying to come into the thread 100% seemingly unironically and talking about s*** like how Bokassa was a revolutionary communist or some dumb s***. trolling works best when it's topical and seems sincere but is unwavering in how it presents its idiotic stances

I dont think its a coincidence that all the socialist leaning countries have handled this pandemic the best, one glance at the numbers and youll see that's a fact

I've heard this quite a bit, you got a source for this?

that seems reasonable. are we (USA) currently in a position for everyone to make a liveable wage?

The US is home to some of the most productive workers in the world and we easily could simply write in some laws that gives everyone everything they’d need

But that wouldn’t satisfy the interests of the ultra wealthy

You can’t make billions or millions through your own labor. That requires you taking other peoples labor. The thing is that being that rich wouldn’t really be desirable in a socialist world since the idea of luxury that is predicated in capitalism wouldnt exist

so would some luxuries (extravagant vacations, incredibly expensive jewelery, etc.) mostly cease to exist, because they woouldnt be important?

With all the money America makes off imperialism yea definitely. Growing up in Libya my family had cheap ass electricity, housing was super cheap and a lot of my family who had been peasants before were given farmland taken from the landowners and became pretty successful (mind you this is all while being heavily sanctioned) so if Libya can America definitely can. However capitalist oligarchs have become so good at lobbying (bribery) as well as anti labor rights being so ingrained in American politics that this is unlikely without meaningful action.

Precisely. The only reason those things are valued now is because they’re adopted by exclusive high class people. If everyone had a Lamborghini or diamonds then it wouldn’t be as valuable right?

But this doesn’t mean that there won’t be potential for better amenities in our every day lives in a socialist country. Imagine a country with free social services, much stronger social cohesion, and one without a lack of suspicion regarding everything around you trying to make money off you

Worth way more than a lambo

ah I see. the price of many luxury items (and basic human commodities lmao) are inflated beyond reason anyway.

It does seem like it would bar some things that are genuinely expensive from being obtained though. For example, if someone really loved cars, and it was their dream to own/drive a supercar, how would they go about that? Since the price of items like that would be very hard to lower.

China's vilification in western media is hilarious. They call it authoritarian but China had 2 covid deaths in 2021 compared to America's 400,000. In before some pleb says "ChInA iS lYiNg"

At first I thought frankito was funny but he’s like a lot of anti Iran diaspora. Lies continuously about Iran, self hating western world lover, and hates Islam simply because the government is Islamic.

I think car culture would change immensely as we go from a car/air -based to a pubTrans/foot based infrastructure framework. The question of cultural products like classic cars and video games and the like has always been a fascinating mental exercise in thinking about socialism.

I think there’s be easier ways to obtain and maintain these cars since there’s no planned obsolescence and companies could even produce parts for them at request or something. But the overall thing is that interest in luxury goods would diminish as a whole so it’s not like everyone would have a pagani sitting in the garage

Dawg this is exactly what people mean when they say we don’t actually engage in discussion or have no talking points. Dude is actually engaging with us in a respectful manner and learn and here you are squandering the opportunity to teach because you wanna be a smartass. Cut it out.

I'm actually nkrumah-toureist. I think it's the most logical ideology because it takes the universal principles of socialism and just applies them to an African setting

that makes sense. Its not super important to me personally, but the example came to mind because I have a few friends who are car fanatics, so it just made me wonder what place expensive passions like that would have in a socialist society.

Why does socialism involve transitioning away from a car/air based society? wouldn't that be moving backwards?
