IMO for a beginner trying to learn more about Marxism I wouldn't even recommend reading Marx or Lenin (ironically) just because of how hard it is to read and how zoomed in and focused the theory is.

depending on your historical knowledge and basis of knowledge of marxism in particular, i would point in the direciton of something like:

how europe underdevleoped africa by walter rodney

if you already know how f***ed up us/europe is, dispelling some myths of the ussr, learning their achievements, learning the inklings of what socialsim actually looks likeand learning what facism is pretty important:

if you feel like you're already anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist, but want to concretely learn more about socialsim:

socialism: utopian and scientific by engels

after learning what socialism is basically by that text i would begin to read other classic texts that go into detail about marxist theory

e.g. reform or revolution by luxemburg, dialectical and historical materalism by stalin, state and rev by lenin, imperialsim by lenin, neo-colonialism by nkrumah,

assuming u read some basic marxist text before his holy grails are

state and revolution
imperialism: highest stage of capitalism
what is to be done
left wing communism: an infantile disorder

Rest of his work is amazing as well like materialism and empire-criticism and definite must reads eventually but those 4 are his most classic and beginner friendly.

@Lou i think u posted a quote about how people living through oppression doesn't necessarily make them recognize oppression of other ppl, using israel as an example. U still got that?

state and revolution imo is the best intro to lenin, and the concepts within are very insightful to how oppression works.

the book is the actual inspiration for many real revolutions and i think the content reflects that well

my plan for this year is to run through every american socialist org i can find and figure out which is what and what needs to be done.

i do some mutual aid stuff independently but wo a proper org for my aid to support, it's harder to justify the time spent when im already pressed for time just working to get by
