The Japanese, he reminded his readers, were not the only ones who made upideas and then fervently began to believe in them. Jean Jacques Rousseau, for example, had simply sat in a forest, invented man in a state of nature, and then imagined a "pseudohistory of man from his own brain." But, even more incredible, Rousseau "fanatically believed in this his pure invention, and, most extraordinary of all, persuaded other people to believe in it as fanatically."

    This passage got me dead

Apparently the nationalist ideology that Meiji restoration government was pushing was so alien to people at first that some villages thought the state propagandists they sent were Christian missionaries and killed them for being "enemies of the province and Bhuddism"

Nah i feel u it's an interesting thing to think abt fs but does it rly have any important implications

Like sometimes u see mfs on leftypol debate abt this shyt or how epigenetics prove lysenko right and i don't rly understand why some people would wanna spend so much time on questions like that (outside of just being interested in the subject itself)

I don’t have a super strong position on this just since I’m not super into the natural sciences, but I think it can in a lot of ways but has all too commonly been applied much too mechanically in ways that aren’t helpful

Check out Dialectics of Nature by Engels if you want and argument for why it can be. If you’re familiar with JMP he is highly critical of DoF for the reason I mentioned and says it shouldn’t be held in such high regard due to Engels deciding to scrap it. It was only published posthumously. He talks a bit about it here

    moufawad-paul.blogspot.com/2016/02/introducing-torsion-and-tension-serial.html?m=1

Overall I tend to align more with JMP on this one. Highly recommend the entirety of Torsion and Tension as a good overview to dialectics as well
