Now, there is going to be a lot of dev diaries going forward to dig into the mechanics of the game, but to wrap up this dev diary I want to briefly touch on the four game design pillars that we have been following when designing and building Victoria 3:
National Gardening: Building, shaping, tweaking and evolving your nation is the first and foremost focus of the game. Events outside your country’s borders can naturally affect your country in significant ways, but the game should never rely on war to provide the main source of enjoyment.
Diplomatic Eminence: War is a continuation of diplomacy, and everything that is achievable by war should also be achievable through diplomacy (even if that diplomacy sometimes comes at the point of a gun).
Everything is Political: Politics is at the heart of Victoria 3, and all major features should in some way tie back into the Pops and Interest Groups that form the core of the game’s politics.
Era of Change: The Victorian era was a time of immense change politically, technologically, culturally, militarily and socially, and these changes should be reflected in the experience of playing a campaign of Victoria 3.
Damn I might just wait for this to come out then

It’s crazy cuz you play as the state specifically. You can’t directly manipulate your population but everything you do changes their attitudes, their production, interrelations, etc
You can have civil wars arise, popular revolution, etc

you should read the dev diaries: forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/developer-diaries/?game_ids[0]=82&page=3
great way to familiarize yourself with mechanics before you jump in
When my mom first came to the Netherlands and requested asylum status she was roommates with an Iraqi woman who fled Iraq and hated Saddam

I feel like Maoism addresses your issues with base/superstructure
Yeah it kinda does partially which is why I’ve mentioned before Schmitt & Mao are hugely compatible to a wild extent

i'm also minoring in data science because i've always been into data organization, spreadsheeting, number organization, etc
but in terms of the field, I want to seek solutions to the climate-driven dehydration of the california central valley, and that may involve work in hydroponics, irrigation, genetic modification, and things like that.
I'd love to work just one layer away from the laboratory/field, collecting, organizing, filtering, compiling, streamlining, presenting data.

Does war produce more Hitlers than Hemingways? Or more Hemingways than Hitlers?
Does war produce more Hitlers than Hemingways? Or more Hemingways than Hitlers?
Ironically I think war oftenvhas "positive" effects on its veterans (ofc the personal effects are overwhelmingly negative) insofar as they politically get much more wary of combat and militarism imo
I need to bite the bullet and read Schmitt lol
@Womanpuncher69 already did, would highly recommend tbh

not sure. Let’s have a period where there’s no wars to find out
