That’s a really good point I hadn’t considered. There’s likely some sort of non-compete clause in the contracts Spotify has with the labels. And if there isn’t there’s a general understanding that if Spotify attempts to encroach on their business that the labels will go nuclear and pull all their music from the service.

    yea exactly

im sure the industry is gonna shake up a ton soon though

    found the document

basically it would have not counted as an album but would've been subject to the same conditions as the other albums

the dude who posted that just said it without showing direct reference. he just said "according to this". and the following quoted posts were all confused lol

then someone said if he dropped 52 a week he'd be free by 2022

that billboard article didn't go much in detail unfortunately

The billboard article is different as well that was when Kanye was ranting in 2018 and said he’d drop an album a week for a whole year

If Rick Rubin didn't touch the "Lost Yeezus Tapes" they can keep those.

Read your contracts and have a lawyer go over them. Keep it indie and get it out the mud

I'm worried that the dirty secret of the music biz is that it just doesn't work financially without the exploitative tactics.

That doesn't mean that it can't work, just that the labels would need to stop assuming so much risk and handing out deals and advances to anyone and everyone.
