I remember when this song was basically chosen (by the navy) as the followup single to "Work" and was released simultaneously with Needed Me. Needed Me made such a splash that it completely pushed this gem to the wayside.
If it was a standalone single it would've been far more successful, but that's how it is sometimes. Oh well.

But part of me feels the song structure is too wild. It is kinda all over the place for radio

Probably Nicki. I remember Carti fans (including myself) hating Poke It Out and it was mostly due to her unnecessary feature. Maybe he felt the same way about her part on "You Da Baddest", even though she fit the song perfectly.

I feel like people were kind of tired of Dancehall Drake when this dropped, this deserved a video and more push, also the intro wasnt needed

doesn't matter it was chosen as a single and didn't even peak in the top 20, it became iconic/successful years after it released and it definitely would've hit number 1 in the states if he didn't already have 5 number 1s off BAD

It was a Top 10 hit here in the states, and was one of the highlights of the album. It might be the second lowest charting single from Bad, but that's only because it was the final single here in the states.

it peaked at number 23 on the hot 100 charts which is the metric im using, sure it hit number 1 on the alternative radio but look at the competition it had

and yes that's exactly right it was the last single and the fatigue of the era set in, so if it released in an alternate era as a lead or follow up single it's hitting number 1
