accounts are the new bookshelves, tides shift, time marches forward, all our belongings will be ash one day.

In the time that I’m alive I’ll be happy with what I get. I won’t go on any forums to cry about inevitable change. A bunch of nerds will cry over their plastic boxes, and yeah, they’ll tell you to kill yourself because of what that plastic box means to them in the moment, but it’ll all be ash one day. Time marches forward.

It’s not a defense and it’s not like PlayStation is the first platform to abandon a media format lol, this isn’t unique to Sony

You’re trying to gaslight people into thinking they’re wrong to care about it with reddit /r/atheism core arguments

Basically a defense bc you’re running interference on their behalf

in 2030 streamers will have fake game cases behind them a la fake books for zoom

Yeah no you’re just too f***ing charged up so every statement that isn’t me sucking off physical owners makes you see red.

It was just a neutral statement about the inevitability of time passing and things changing. I don’t support Sonys decision but I saw it coming, everyone should’ve.

I don’t… I was just saying things change. Are you alright? Everyone’s acting like the world is ending.

You said accounts are the new bookshelves or did I misread

I’m good I have a floor to ceiling library downstairs but everything going digital and to streaming gives less incentive to create good art and affects the quality across the board. So it’s frustrating for sure

    I actually dont give af
    Barely play a videogame anymore

But its f***ed up for the 2nd hand market and all the collectors

  • Not joking when I say they should do a digital shelf you can walk through look at memories in the games through clips , screen shots , trophies . Also a game box virtually with manuals and Easter eggs . Essentially an astrobot like world for your collection

From having a classic line up on book shelf or tv stand to just downloaded games on the ps5

Ugly af man we losing all the magic of the past in favor of this “efficient streaming era” bs this was inevitable tho they already did it with music and moving towards that with movies

This is such a ridiculous and nonsensical way to live life.

The crazy thing is nobody is even saying you shouldn't own games digitally. If you wanna own nothing, rent forever, and engage with all of your art in the nonexistent cloud, then that's totally your decision.

The problem with Sony's move is they are cutting out physicals completely and not giving people the choice anymore.

Music went digital, but CDs, vinyl, and cassettes still exist.

Kindles and Nooks came out, but bookstores are still filled with physical books all over the globe.

Movies and shows get pushed straight-to-streaming nowadays, but still get released on Blu-Ray and 4K UHD.

Games existing digitally does not mean that they have to cease existing physically. That is a decision that is informed purely by corporate greed, late stage capitalism, and anti-consumer ideals.

This is not technology advancing like you keep trying to frame it as, this is a company cutting costs to maximize profit and control the market

Music, film, and books never became so complex that they don’t fit on vinyl or paperback or whatever, that’s why those formats still exist.

Games however, are, gta6 300gb on disc just isn’t feasible. You’re asking for futuristic disc tech that doesn’t exist.

Even Nintendo is struggling with fitting big games on cart and the speed of cartridges in terms of game loading, the game key card outrage was the first sign of where things were headed. We were always going this direction.

Meanwhile, a futuristic format that doesn’t even require discs is here. It’s just digital download. I understand you want there to be these fancy new discs, but the technology isn’t there.

    Not as commonly but yes
