Yeah, why grown adults even dealing physical punishment on someone less than half their size anyway

ngl the s*** that worries me the most is when ppl talk about their kids and how excited they are to punish them physically, it's very weird and kinda upsetting to see, like "I CAN'T WAIT TO BEAT MY CHILD AND WHUP EM WITH A BELT AND I WANT TO SEE THEM CRY AND CRY", it seems like people do it to their children now out of some f***ed up sadism than anything

the ideal is also rooted in european protestant thought that children are born in sin and that you may not spare the rod, the concept of modern "corporal punishment" was not present in prior african/native cultures, and i hate when i see people attempt to excuse their actions by saying "this is how we did it back in the old days", the method is descendant of how european colonizers would treat native people or slaves to be subservient

it also can put in their heads to behave out of fear/to avoid retributive pain from their parents/authority figures rather than to morally do the right thing, based on their own thoughts, this especially affected me personally growing up.

i grew up with corporal punishment, however i do feel it affected me, especially growing up in school, i was always a good kid and all, and the reason was that i knew what would happen if i f***ed up heavy, i would get hit and it made me afraid of authority figures growing up, because i only knew some type of pain would come from parental/authoritative retribution.

that's not a healthy mentality to have, and i feel that some of it kinda morphed into my own anxieties that i struggle with today

yes, it technically gives faster results in the short-term but it has the potential to f*** them up long-term (more risk of aggression and mental health issues, and teaches that physical violence is the best solution when someone does something you don't like) and to strain the relationship between the parent and the child

i believe positive reinforcement works best, where we reward the kid for behaving good and you give non-violent negative reinforcement, like grounding or taking away s***, when they do something disrespectful or bad

you should also especially try to have a good, positive relationship with your children because they will get close to you and they will let you know what's on their mind and whats making them act out

It depends on the intensity of the spanking

Well you face consequences when you do wrong things as an adult such as losing your car...

yes, i understand, i've seen situations like this too, however you can discipline and speak your mind to your kid without being physically violent

this is the same logic domestic abusers try to use against their spouses

"if i just slap the s*** out that b****, she'll listen to me"

Fr, people really get institutionalized by that s***. They be going around like “If your parents beat you like mine did to me, then maybe YOU’D be stable like I am!” It’s a cry for help honestly

  • Apr 16, 2021

I’d rather get my ass beat than be grounded for a week

a light smack or pinch aint bad or even a launched sandal here and there, it's obviously a spectrum but the intense rage-fueled pain infliction by someone who is supposed to love you is what really bothers me and can affect people
