This is such a reach, tf.

Physically abused and taking out anger on ur child the way X mom did =/= spanking

corporal punishment is inherently taking out anger on a child though for perceived slights

maybe not to the degree of punching children in the ribs but it comes from similar motives of discipline and how it can be achieved through violence

I wouldn't use a switch/cord/belt, but they definitely getting popped with a hand if they on some wild s***. Then we'll talk.

If y'all want lil Tanners crying on the floor in a supermarket after saying he can't have 12 packs of Skittles then have at it with only your chitty chat talks.

Yeah I would say beating your kids every time they act up is bad, but ik some people who think that anyone who’s ass was beat as a kid is traumatized by it trust me I ain’t show nothing but love to my parents and they reciprocate it now I’m grown

  • Apr 16, 2021

With the time I’ve spent with kids I can’t really even imagine when spanking would be necessary lol such a strange concept to me. Definitely mostly just a parent having some kind of power complex or something that they’ve dealt with because otherwise it doesn’t even make sense. Like how old are we talking for spankings anyway?

Not necessarily, corporate punishment as a means of discipline isn't inherently an act of taking out anger. There's a lot of parents that do it, not cause they want to but to show kids right from wrong.

U can say there can be a correlation between the two, but not inherently, especially not to the degree of a light spanking compare to one knocking teeth of their kids mouth like X.

feel like any other form is mental abuse. like taking a kids prized toy is like if someone repo’d your car or someone took your bitcj

Getting your car repo’d or someone taking your b**** isn’t mental abuse tho that’s just consequences and life happening lol, how you gonna care about the vague concept of “mental abuse” enough to stretch it to covering taking a kids toy but not have a similar energy for physical abuse which is way easier to define

here are some good opinion pieces/articles on the matter, and how it affects communities of color

a light smack or pinch aint bad or even a launched sandal here and there, it's obviously a spectrum but the intense rage-fueled pain infliction by someone who is supposed to love you is what really bothers me and can affect people

This probably explains why a lot of women are fine staying with a man even if he beats the s*** outta her.

Cuz she was taught by her parents that even tho I’m quite literally physically abusing you, I still love you, so they treat their male partner with the same attitude.

Side story: I literally talked to a chic off a dating app I met irl, and she mentioned how her ex body slammed her on the concrete and would beat the living s*** out of her and she said she still loves him because of all the other good things he does. She literally said, “even though he would beat me, him taking care of me when I was sick and depressed is true love idc what anybody says”

    F***ing yikes

should we teach children right from wrong using consequences of violence and pain, which works fast but long-term potential for future issues or a non-violent method of taking their s*** away until they chill out and then u can talk about it

I say a combination of both. I said in another thread it's a scale of offenses. I dont think corporate punishment should be the automatic go to punishment especially for simple things like not going to sleep on time or not cleaning their rooms.

But in instances of repeated ignoring and offenses or something severe then I feel like it should have it's place. I just dont think it's such a black and white issue people try to make it.

What's the point of light spanking tho if it doesn't hurt them how is it going to leave an impression on them if they know they can do what they want and get away with only a light spank

Sounds like spanking only works when there's actual physical consequences, and that's just abuse

You can show right from wrong much better than hitting them

Light spanking as in nun too severe but enough to get the point across. And that's not just abuse. In some cases yes.

if it doesn't hurt me I'm just gonna keep doing it

if it does hurt me it's abuse, there's no winning with it

answer my question tho, how is it going to get the point across if it doesn't hurt them? Just getting hit softly does nothing, unless you're holding it over them and threatening them with it which sounds very controlling and abusive

I did answer it tho. When I said point across, I meant as it hurts.

I've never spanked my kid and don't intend to start, but man is it tempting when they do something destructive and laugh in your face because they have no concept of right or wrong at a super young age and simply crave attention.

Still trying to figure out an effective balance after two years of parenting. I don't want my kid to be scared of me but I also want it to be immediately clear when a behavior is unwanted, not an abstract concept to figure out later on.
