Didn’t see a thread for this.
You’ve likely seen this trailer by now:
I saw an early screening and I liked it. My audience was ERUPTING with laughter and applause. It’s just scene after scene of teasing and tension. Haven’t seen a crowd pleaser like this in awhile. Get some popcorn and enjoy yourselves.
Apparently it’s a remake of some Danish film tho.

There’s a lot of awkward humor. The audience was laughing cause it was intentionally funny. I thought it was good good.

In. Don’t have much coming out this month compared to the last few
I don’t understand this kneejerk insistence that characters in horror movies absolutely MUST be smart. I feel like people often grossly overestimate how smart they’d be in certain situations anyway. But in this case, you’re just missing the point of the movie.
To see a thriller like this so aggressively advertised has been weird. Feel like I’ve seen the whole movie twice already.

I definitely see why it got the marketing push, it must have tested really well.
The Danish film is pretty good and it’s so recent idk why they felt the need for this

I definitely don’t feel like I can in good conscience give this film a rating until I see the Danish version.

When you say missing the point, what do you mean? I know nothing about this but I’m mildly interested. If it’s a spoiler you can just not answer
this and blink twice spoiler second movie this year where the protagonist discovers a secret box of photos hidden in a shed that reveals the nefarious plot
I’ll give credit where credit is due, as much as I saw this trailer in theaters and dreaded it, the movie itself is actually pretty damn good. James McAvoy plays deranged really well and the balance he strikes in this film is near perfect. McKenzie Davis is great as well as the kids specifically. The third act is what makes the film and the tense scenes within it are really well done. If anything this makes me want to seek out the original Danish film.
4/5
This was wild! I liked how much of it was a slow burn, you see hints here and there of the strangeness of their surrounding and McAvoy is not really subdued but mysterious, but when the hinges come off everything gets turned way up and it becomes an insanely thrilling movie. It’s good to see not all remakes are prone to become lesser versions of the original, I feel like it’s use of awkward humor as well as tension and an incredible performance from James gives it all the steam it needs to stand on its own.
9/10
I thought Mackenzie Davis gave the best performance. I’ve seen that type of person before.
After doing some research i saw the director did the Black Mirror episode “Shut Up & Dance”! Makes sense cause that is probably one of the most intense episodes of the show, also happens to be one of my favorites
so me and my girl watched the original last night and really enjoyed it. we're gonna go ahead and check out the remake even though i find it completely unnecessary but good to know people are liking it
This is better than the first movie, which was too blunt to enjoy. Maybe Lanthimos could have pulled it off, alas...
I like how this movie made the characters feel much more alive and complex. I think they could have still done a harrowing ending, but all things said I prefer this version.
The setting is much stronger too. Like, that farmhouse has a very distinct character that the first movie can't really compete with. (Though, I can understand someone preferring the more drab aesthetic of the first. It's perhaps a more relatable or disarming setting.)
I don't usually prefer the more formulaic direction (which this is), but the talent came through more. James McAvoy led with a very intriguing mix of creep and charisma.
The gender dynamics were more interesting too. I think its interesting how this movie REALLY plays up the toxic masculinity stuff. Maybe they push the button a little too strong when you compare how the husband and wife perform during the finale (I can hear someone saying they "girlbossed" the climax), but it's not something that limits my appreciation.

That’s a top 3 episode of the show
