Really triggering to hear Spike taking another Asian remake lol but Denzel being there kinda adds hope.
Hoping it just sticks true to modern criminal investigations cus the second it tries to do what Akira did it'll fall flat on its face. You can't replicate that exact magic
Tbf I believe Akira’s movie was based on a book from an American writer anyway. Spike probably adapting the same material and basing it in America then modernizing it

Yeah you're right this is fair. The modernizing and nailing a proper procedural was my main thing.
And then there's Denzel and Spike's last collab Inside Man which was also a procedural that was heavily influenced by another film and that worked very well

Spikes one of my goats, Denzel is one of my goats. I’m trusting this.
Just not a fan of remakes, especially of movies that I truly love. But then again, Denzel was in a remake recently, Macbeth and I liked that one a lot…so..
Most people say Seven samurai is their favorite Akira movie, mine is High and Low.
In the words of Michelle Obama… “when they go high I go low”…. Or wait
My expectations are very low for this. He bold for doing a Kurosawa remake
So I gave the original version a watch, and it's great. That last third was truly something special. Kurosawa could have just made a suspense movie and left it there but I was surprised by the psychological turn at the end. Silence of The Lambs type beat. Also, the use of color in a particular scene was very clever.
Didn’t Soderbergh also try this with Full Circle a few months ago
yes i think it was loosely inspired rather than some 1 to 1. it was a good show though, super underrated. If Spike is just taking notes from the original and not trying to remake it then I have high hopes.
Spike is too legendary to be remaking s*** man
Martin did it with departed and it was f***ing great. I’m glad he remade it

Yesssir! Glad you enjoyed it!
With the racism and all
Is he racist irl?!! Or do you mean because John usually brings the racist angles/subplots when he’s in a spike movie?
