the coordinated way young felon got the money made it seem like he was the head of some criminal organization or some oceans 11 type professional thief, only for him to just be some guy in the projects?

This is a good point. And not even that he couldn’t be in the projects but he had an entire crew operating for him…. He should’ve never been that easy to find and then stick up at the studio. They made it seem like Rocky’s character was smarter than what he was.

“Oh he played this song” then Denzel magically hears the song. And then Jeffrey just happens to find where his address is. And then the GF just happens to point out where he is exactly. And then Rocky just happens to be alone with one other dude who easily runs off? He that much of a b**** and doesn’t come back with back up? Where’s the guys who helped you pull this off?

And they did nothing with the guy they caught with the tampons. wasn't mentioned again. no integration scene.. nothing... the script left alot of meat on the bone

To me that would’ve been the more obvious route with having that guy snitch.

But they wanted to force the whole music aspect, “I got the best ears” where Denzel just happens to find Rocky’s song and can identify him based off the kidnapped son singing it

not only that but the whole plan was to have somebody pull the emergency brake so Denzel's character would drop the bag

and if he held on to the 17.5 million

also who tf recorded him at that moment for it to go viral. besides the bad dialogue and acting the story just had so many plotholes. clearly Spike and the writer were surrounded by too many yes men

Well I’m pointing out lazy writing. It was convoluted as hell. Discovering who the kidnapper is because Denzel just magically finds his song is already wild but then two seconds later Jeffrey can instantly get his address? Fam no one buying that s***

its not lazy if it was intentional though, although you can still not like it

The movie is much more concerned with the implications of the kidnapping and how the main character decides to deal with it rather than the actual logistics of it

It’s 100% lazy. The fact Jeffrey can send a text and just instantly get dudes address? Cmon bro. Mind you this is AFTER Denzel just magically discovers his song out of nowhere. They wanted to get to a point where we get the Denzel Rocky showdown and went the easiest way possible. No creativity, no genius, nothing. That’s some s*** a high schooler would come up with.

Spike should’ve did some rewrites on that s***.

Ok bro so if they added a scene of them triangulating his postition that would fix the movie for you?

  • Sep 8, 2025

its not even as far fetched as your making it sound either

they literally drop scenes throughout the movie that Jeffrey Wrights character is well connected within NYC and its not like rocky's character thought they would be able to link a song to him

I know for a fact there’s definitely better ways you can drive the story to getting to the Denzel Rocky showdown. 100%

But no, we still had to sit through a lot of terrible acting. You already know ion jack the score. The tone was off. The cliche ass ending. This felt like an R-rated hallmark film. And if that was Spikes goal then ok cool? But it just sucks cus I know someone like Spike could have delivered a classic with this material.

The fact that the acting (aside from Denzel and Jeffrey obviously) was this bad says a lot.

im not saying that im saying that the choices within the film are probably intentional and not due to laziness (as you implied)

But Spike didn’t write the script? He’s not credited as a writer at all, that’s why I said he should’ve did his own rewrite because Alan’s screenplay wasn’t up to par. It just wasn’t.

How? This was one of my most anticipated movies of the year.

If I’m watching a film and see terrible acting, am I not allowed to think “damn this acting sucks”???
