After digesting the album for a week and a half, I have made up my opinion on the album. Please feel free to debate any points I make and roast me all you want.

    1. Every Hour: This song was a huge grower for me. I completely hated this the first time I heard it. This is not my type of song and my original dislike for the album was due in part to this being the intro. What really make me start to like it was the "sing to the power of the lord" sung in the background at 0:50 layered behind the other vocals. Overall, it's definitely not my favorite song, but I enjoy the song now. 7.5/10

    2. Selah: I think this is the most overrated song on the album. The "hallelujah" part goes on way too long and doesn't build up to anything too great. The "He is wonderful" part at the end of the hallelujah part is amazing though. The woo woo woo part at the end just doesn't exude the energy that it's supposedly supposed to have. Not sure what it is but this song is just boring overall for me. 6.5/10

    3. Follow God: Easily the best song on the album. The beat reminds me of Otis and Kanye is delivering one of his best verses I've heard from him in years. I don't know who wrote it, but I don't care. The amount of rhymes he fit in the verse is impressive and sounds amazing. The sample is amazing. I wish the mix was a bit better, but overall the song is amazing. 10/10

    4. Closed on Sunday: The guitar at the beginning make it sound like it's going to be a great song and then the cringe ass chick fil a lyrics come in and I want to shut this song off immediately. The soft choir in the back is great, but the song is wasted with such s***ty lyrics. Once the beat switches up around 1:25 though it significantly improves in quality, both lyrically and Kanye's delivery of the lyrics. It's just a shame the beginning of the song brings it down in quality so much. 6/10

    5. On God: The synths at 0:34 really bring this song up a whole level for me. Wasn't a huge fan of this song at first but it grew on me a lot. The synths throughout the song are a bit repetitive, but I enjoy it. I feel like the beat should've switched up or something, but overall the song is pretty solid. 8/10

    6. Everything We Need: Biggest waste of a song on the album. Ty Dolla $ign's vocals are incredible and then Kanye starts a weak ass verse over a weak ass simplistic drum beat. It should've built up to something much better than what actually happened on the song. Lyrics are cringe as f***, that apple juice s*** reminded me of the corniest sections of TLOP. Had so much potential but was weak overall. 5/10

    7. Water: This song is so amazing up until Kanye starts rapping. The choir is amazing in the intro. "The storm may come... but we'll get through it, because of your love" might be the best moment on the entire album. The bassline with the weird synth over it sounds amazing. Ant Clemons sounds great. Then Kanye drops the worst verse on the album. It's legitimately unlistenable. The deep background vocals under his rapping are amazing and save the song, otherwise I would shut that s*** off every time it comes on. Luckily it's only 20 seconds long or so and I can tune it out, but wow that verse sucks. Could've been one of his best songs ever but got ruined by the Jesus trash. 9/10

    8. God Is: Another overrated song. Kanye sounds passionate and sings well, but it sounds like Kanye is singing an R. Kelly demo and I just can't deal with it. Production is not great and there isn't much to the song besides Kanye's singing. The lyrics are also cringe like most of the Jesus lyrics on the album. 6/10

    9. Hands On: This song is amazing. Production is 10/10 and has the feel of a deep cut on TLOP and would've been one of the best songs on TLOP. Lyrics aren't terrible compared to some of the trash in the other songs. It sounds like Kanye put a lot of effort into the production and it shows. 9.5/10

    10. Use This Gospel: Another overrated song. The chant part isn't as great as everyone hypes it up to be. Kanye's lyrics about the gospel are borderline unlistenable. Clipse saves this song up until Kenny G comes in and renegades everyone with an incredible outro. If it wasn't for the lyrics, this song could've been so much better. The drums should've been in the song throughout the verses as well. 7/10

    11. Jesus Is Lord: One of the best songs production-wise on the album, and Kanye's singing is great. Just wish it was longer and there was more to it. 8/10

Overall this album could've been so much better without the Jesus lyrics. I don't care if Kanye swears or not in his songs, but purposefully making the lyrics so bad severely brings down the quality of the album. To be fair though, once I got over the s*** lyrics the album really grew on me. The first listen through was probably a 3/10 for me, now it's about a 7.5/10. With actual solid lyrics, this could've been maybe an 8.5. If he removed Everything We Need and God Is, it would've been so much better. I'm all for an album about positivity, but basing the positivity on Jesus is something I just can't get behind. It's one thing spreading positive vibes, and it's a completely other thing to listen to Jesus lyrics. One of the saddest things I heard Kanye say was in the Corden karaoke where he changed the Jesus Walks lyrics to "I'm trying to turn atheists into believers" because it just goes to show he's trying to indoctrinate everyone to believe the same stuff he believes. It's such a hypocritical idea after he spent so much time trying to be free and now he's being controlled by the Bible. True freedom is achieved through being influenced only by what you want, and I would argue he was closest to that during the Yeezus era. Now he is stuck in religion mode and I really hope he can free himself from it.

    Debate away my dudes.

I completely agree on water however I would give it a 3/10 just because of that verse. Kills it.

Album is definitely a grower. I absolutely hated it at first, now I really really like it

I listen to it AT LEAST once a day

Definitely could have been better with different lyrics as you said

Use this Gospel as it was when it was Laws of Attraction could have been a top 5 Ye song

Disagree with a lot of this, two of your bottom 3 are in my top 3 and I've already gone into detail about how and why this doesn't go against Kanye's whole free thinking thing.

    Appreciate a fair review tho.

    Why

Cuz bruh this really not a fair review, you obviously just don’t identify with the themes. God Is is the best song on the album. Nothing about the lyrics on that song are even remotely corny, you simply don’t identify with them.

You're saying "Jesus Christ did the laundry", "what if Eve made apple juice" and "closed on sunday you're my chic-fil-a" aren't corny lyrics?

Chick fil a line yeah for sure but none of those other lines bother me. Kanye has said s*** like the apple juice line his whole career I think it’s kinda funny and don’t mind it at all. I still wanna know what lines on God Is are corny

After digesting the album review for a minute and a half, I have made up my opinion on the album review. Please feel free to debate any points I make and roast me all you want.

Every Hour: This song review was a huge grower for me. I completely hated this the first time I read it. This is not my type of opinion. Overall, it's definitely not my favorite song review, but I enjoy it now. 7.5/10

Selah: I think this is the most overrated song review in this post. Not sure what it is but this it's just boring overall for me. 6.5/10

Follow God: Easily the best song review on the album review. The opinion reminds me of myself and spooky is delivering one of his best posts I've seen from him in years. I don't know who wrote it, but I don't care. 10/10

Closed on Sunday: The content at the beginning makes it seem like it's going to be great and then the cringe ass opinion come in and I want him to shut up immediately. The post is wasted with such s***ty opinions. 6/10

On God: The first few paragraphs really bring this album review up a whole level for me. Wasn't a huge fan of it at first but it grew on me a lot. The content throughout the review is a bit repetitive, but I enjoy it. 8/10

Everything We Need: Biggest waste of a song review in his post. Had so much potential but was weak overall. 5/10

Water: This song review is so amazing up until spooky starts spazzin. Luckily it's only 20 lines long or so and I can skip it, but wow that opinion sucks. Could've been one of his best song reviews ever but got ruined. 9/10

God Is: Another overrated song review. Spooky sounds passionate and writes well, but it sounds like spooky is quoting a Paul m Denino s***post. 6/10

Hands On: This song review is amazing. Writing is 10/10 and has the feel of a deep cut on the review. The content isn't terrible compared to some of the trash in this post. It sounds like spooky put a lot of effort into the production and it shows. 9.5/10

Use This Gospel: Another overrated song. If it wasn't for this paragraph, this review could've been so much better. 7/10

Jesus Is Lord: One of the best opinions on the album review, and spooky's thinking is great. Just wish it was longer and there was more to it. 8/10

Overall this review could've been so much better without the negative opinions

Asking the Yeezus apologist what his opinion on Jesus is King seems questionable at best.

Respect your opinions, however I’m not reading that wall of text.

  • Nov 4, 2019

Follow God, Closed On Sunday, God Is and Every Hour are the four greatest songs on this album, rest is debatable imo

i agree with selah after awhile u start to notice the hallelujas go on a bit long, shouldve been stopped earlier of built more but i still think youre underrating it "ye shall be made free" synching with those powerful drums hits is amazing and the we got the product we got the youth and s*** is so dope.

Closed on sunday, I really like the song, the chick fil a thing just works for me just give it time it took me a while not to cringe at the bleached a****** line while others loved it right away. and it was the opposite with "left the fridge open somebody took a sandwich" i thought that was hilarious and great right away while its so hated by a lot to this day. those lines of his that are silly/stupid funny are very hit and it really varies between ppl of which are the actual funny ones and the ones that are trash. and I like this singing at the end. the chik fil a shriek at the end tho, i dont like that.

Everything we need hardddd disagree here. i think the simple beat but it sounds great and the laid back feel work with the theme of the song. I like the lyrics on this one, that apple juice thing idk why ppl have a problem of him just changing it from apple to apple juice but its just a perfect reference and leads into the chorus perfectly. love the song

Gotta say i super disagree on God is. I don't find the lyrics corny because as you say he sounds super passionate. like do i agree with all the jesus worship? no, but i find the song beautiful because it really sounds like he's baring his soul and just laying out how he feels even if i think him going full on christian is kinda silly clearly he's been through a lot which probably just makes him so obsessed since it apparently helped him.

and yeah uh UTG aint great but we have a dope edit that leaves it mostly the same but adds some drums and guitar from LoA and kanyes GTA bars in which are the f***ing best. might end up treating it as the official version eventually
