"Spotify officially announced that it has expanded access to Discovery Mode, a contentious program that gives artists the chance to gain more algorithmic exposure on the platform — through Spotify Radio and autoplay — in exchange for a lower royalty rate"
“To ensure the tool is accessible to artists at any stage of their careers, it won’t require any upfront budget,” Spotify wrote in its blog post. “Instead, labels or rights holders agree to be paid a promotional recording royalty rate for streams in personalized listening sessions where we provided this service.”
why and how anyone who isn't established would take an even LOWER royalty rate I have no idea
lower rate for exposure makes sense lol
Side question, what exactly is hip hop Twitter
the people who hate everything not nas, doom, eminem etc
lower rate for exposure makes sense lol
I’m f***ing with it honestly. I’ve got 120k plays and that totaled up to $420 - I’d rather get $200 and have 300k plays easy

Exactly like it makes sense. If you not making much anyway might as well get more exposure.
They are working to bury hip hop. This is designed for other genres to over take it.
not really. music just is becoming increasingly less profitable so corporations are looking for more and more avenues to extract revenue from. DSP’s are gonna continue to do more stuff like this as the amount of people willing to pay the same streaming price (9.99) saturates.
its also why artists have been selling their publishing off, they get the money upfront and investors/speculators make triple that off everything that comes with owning the publishing. so in reality this isn’t just a hip hop thing just a music industry thing
These DSPs will fall and burn in hell for the havoc they have caused to creatives

how is this lame? its another way for new artists to grow...
but yea streaming was needed to stop/slwo piracy
We will see how this plays out
Creatives need to band together and make Bandcamp popping
That’s the only way they gonna make real money through streaming

Honestly this kind of excites me if it’s a way for artists to grow their career
No one’s making money off streams anyway, you’re gonna make your money from touring and merch

most money comes from tours and merch, and if you need that exposure to set up said tours and to have people to buy the merch I could see how it would make sense

We will have to see it in practice but if these platforms are already saturated with artists and the majority of these artists choose to take a smaller cut in exchange for more exposure, the platform cannot satisfy the exposure artists have in mind again it’s all in theory but I don’t think this will be a radical change in exposure. A change nonetheless but not a strong change
if arbok backwords is kobra, and ekans backwards is snake, then explain MUK

most paid users probably not gonna use spotify radio and free users already get force fed songs.
“Hip hop Twitter”, r/hip hop heads and Kanye West fans already killed hip hop
Very true

Yea but are free users consistently being fed songs from smaller artists?

why does it matter if they are smaller artists? Same s*** to me if you not picking the song.

The point of this is for more exposure and artists with little to no exposure are usually small artists
