Not almost, that's exactly the reason. It's 3 in-universe years between ANH and ESB and in ESB Luke still struggles with something as simple as force pulling his lightsaber. He doesn't believe he can lift the rock, doesn't believe he can lift the X-Wing, etc. and Yoda tells him that's why he's failing. It has nothing to do with not having enough training or reps or anything like that, it's a lack of belief. At the end of ESB Luke is still a relative novice. The time difference between ESB and ROTJ is much shorter, it's like 6-12 months and in ROTJ Luke is way more seasoned, confident and powerful. What changed? Luke started to believe.
Don't know why so many people have a hard time comprehending.

If you liked Plagueis, check out the Darth Bane trilogy. Those are some of the best books the old canon has to offer.
As far as new canon goes there's not much similar but there's plenty that's still good in it's own right. Some of my favourites include anything written by Claudia Grey. She's the goat of the current canon. I'd suggest 'Lost Stars' by her if you're into young adult stuff. And if you want a bit more Jedi action, go for 'Master & Apprentice' which follows Qui-gon and a young Obi-Wan.
I'd also suggest the latest book called 'Light of the Jedi' by Charles Soule, set during the High Republic, a new era in the current canon. It's set 200 years before Episode 1.

didn't need this from you ok? you know what just happened? because i couldn't find a tfa remux and the tlj remux was taking for f***ing ever to download i decided to just say you know what? f*** it! i'll buy them. so i bought the entire skywalker saga on blu ray, 45 minutes later i was like "actually no wtf am i doing" so i try to cancel the order and guess what? i can't cancel the order. so i'm like f*** it i guess i'm stuck with the blu rays now so i delete all the remux's off my hard drive cuz they're taking up almost 400gb in space and then i get an email that night from the seller telling me that he actually did cancel my order and now you know what? they're sold out of the skywalker saga on blu-ray. i can't reorder it so now i have nothing. absolutely nothing but 5-10gb encodes that are cool but not great so please rwina or aaaaaaaaaaaa or whatever the f*** you go by now, shut the F*** up.
