It was only certified up to 8x platinum back then, but it had more units.

let me explain it, it could have been eligible for 8x platinum 1yr ago but got certified only few months ago.
now it's eligible for Diamond and is waiting to be certified.
    RIAA doesn't certify immediately

Dawg that still isn't making sense. Are you not understanding??
Toosie slide has been top 5 for weeks and only now got 1.5million units

But you really think a song that isn't charting magically sold nearly 2,000,000 units over 3 months

Where they even pulled these numbers out from? 😂

Bro it has sold 10mil but they only certified 8x for now, they will fully certify it in the next batch.
Thats how labels especially Republic does this idk whats so hard to grasp.

Bro gtfoh with that nonsense. Even still thats at bare minimum 1.1 million units.

For a song that isnt even charting? In 3 months... that makes no sense because according to your logic if it was eligible for 8x platinum last year then it didnt even sell 1 million units since then...but it MAGICALLY sold 1 million in 3 months since last certification

WHERE YALL PULL THOSE NUMBERS OUT FROM??

did you not read what he said it was eligible for diamond even then but only 8 platinums were certified instead of the diamond

those units could have come from whatever point in time but they didn’t count for the RIAA’s plaques until the label certified them

    Are yall idiots or something?

Thats not how it works.... lol

Labels submit songs to RIAA and the Riaa decide what to certify it based on sales data submitted... if a song is diamond then WHY would they certify it 8x platinum? That makes no sense tf

    That's literally how it works.
And the labels pay for the certifications, so when you certify a lot of songs from a lot of artists at the same time that costs a lot of money so they do it in batches.
Also for big stuff like Diamond singles they usually leave some time so they can make merch or some special vinyls or whatever.

it means they finished enough paperwork to certify 8 million sold units

they may have sold 10 million legitimately and the RIAA recognizes that and says it’s eligible but you as the label still have to get the paperwork together and legitimatize the sales for a plaque.

They probably only did 8m because they started on that batch once the paperwork for eligibility was available, the paperwork to get them 9 and 10 platinum probably came around way later

you don’t just say to the RIAA “hey we sold 10 million” you have to provide certified data and that takes some f***ing time

that’s why singles and albums are “certified” gold plat and diamond

Yes the labels have to pay if they want them certified lol.

The sales data is submitted to RIAA. They then certify it whatever. The labels have no say in what certification it is or what they want.

If his label submitted it THREE MONTHS AGO with ALL OF ITS SALES UP TO THAT POINT. Then wtf are you even arguing? Your point is that Republic records.....stopped it from being certified diamond... to save money? 😂 BOY republic is the highest selling label in music

Plaques dont even comes from the RIAA so idek wtf you talking about

the labels do have a say in what certification they want actually. It’s up to the label to submit however much sales information they want to certify their singles for

and the reason they’d do it is marketing

Fam... the riaa does not say when a song/album is "eligible" that is all fan made data they collected they dont even have access to actual numbers

They said superbass was "eligible" for diamond....It isnt even CLOSE to that. Imma take the word of the Riaa over a weeknd fan site an believe its only 8x platinum when they recertify it whenever...we shall see
