I played Fallout 3. Don't know 4 story as much. I think most "save the world you are the hero" stories are BAD though like there isn't one case I can think of with the same old hero plot that properly develops the hero

Witcher 2 was dope though but there is a lot going on in that plot. Its kind of rare though. Especially on RPG side with choice that they can have both choice and a good main line because they set themselves up to have branching endings or dissapoint

It doesn’t even need to be all that. I just want some actual memorable, well-written characters, something a Bethesda game hasn’t really had since Morrowind.

It’s actually kind of insane when you think of how massive their games are that since like, 2001, the only legitimately interesting character they’ve come up with is Nick Valentine.

Everyone else brought up is only ever brought up because of memes, and that’s all they are as characters in the games themselves.

Fallout 4 open world is dope my personal fav out of all their open worlds including new vegas - best thing about the game imo and its exploration is top tier plus the full urban enviorment setting. One of my fav open worlds in gaming in general and a lot to come across.

The dlcs are some of the best stories out of all their games.

The gameplay is great.

The mainstory is ass to ok.

Some of the chars are dope most are whatever.

The side quests are usally dope outside of the faction side quests.

Its a 7 to an 8 overall. Mostly like it for its open world, gameplay and dlc.

Fallout 2 > Vegas > 4 > 3

Havent played Fallout 1 and 76 doesnt count

comparing new vegas and 3 is a fair comparison and many like New Vegas better and I understand the reasons

Comparing to a game 7 years later that ideally learned from some mistakes of 3 is an odd choice but receptionally and for what they both did at the times many view Fallout 3 as the best bethesda has done in many regards. To each their own I haven't fully played 4 hor new vegas but bottom tier and fallout 3 even in comparison is bonkers

So you're saying it's worse but it's older so its fine? Sure FO3 was more of a moment than 4 but that has nothing to do with the quality, not gonna argue writing because I think both are equally trash in similar ways (main quest especially suffer from the same problems) but at least 4 vastly improved the gameplay loop and progression. 3 is just a slog in almost every aspect in comparison

I am saying its hard to compare a halo 1 vs a halo 2 or many sequels when they learn so much from their predecessor and drop multiple years later on better technology

Because often without one the other isn't even possible so calling it bottom tier when it had to be created to get here is what throws me off

I don't subscribe to this argument since for MGS 1-3, Mario 64, Silent Hill 1-3, and even to use your example Halo 1-2 are all games that are argued to be the best in their respective series even though sequels were done on better hardware and 'learned' from their predecessor

Yeah that is fair but Fallout 3 although it feels dated now is a great game that many games after it learned from. I can't act like it wasnt a great game because greater games in the series released after or a game made 15 years ago feels dated
