Why does this game tell you “Be who you want to be” and never give you the option to do that?

Your companion will tell you where to go and what to do and there usually only one way to complete a mission anyway.

Compare it to CP2077. You can sit outside and kill everyone via netrunning, go in guns blazing through the front door, steal the item you need, blackmail people, jump in the the roof or hack the back door.

Baldurs Gate does this even better. You can intimidate, lie, persuade, steal, kill, negotiate, manipulate or read peoples mind to get what you want.

Can’t believe Bethesda had the balls to release this in the same month as CP:PL and BG3 PS5

I feel like 20 straight years of people hailing their games as flawless masterpieces had them convinced they didn’t really need to update anything for this one. And half the people playing are inhaling their nuts anyway so maybe they didn’t have to

This game is on a very small list of being overrated af & simultaneously underrated af its wild - so much right and good about it while so much wrong and dumb about it. So many people either love it to death or hate it with a passion. Game is neither imo, but it is a good time with a lot of cool & good things (along with the annoying & baffling) that also holds some of the studio's heights so far - while also failing at very basic or missing very basic things
