The cost of production of Horizon vs Sales is closer than you think
I mean we already know what it cost from the ftc docs and insomniac leaks
it was 212 million to develop. 300 million when you add in employee cost.
game had sold 8.4 million at that point, so for discussion sake then multiply that by full price and you're looking at 504 million
so adding nuance of sales and what not, still should be about 100 to 200 million in profit according to the data from april 2023. obviously number would've continued to grow at the current date
either way they've certainly made a profit

okay now remove all the sales from bundles.

is that including marketing too?
is that including marketing too?
to my knowledge i don't think marketing is included in as dev cost, dev cost is just what is costs to make the product you're going to sell. marketing budget is handled by marketing team/research, so that wasn't in the legal docs

Closest info we have to match metrics on bundles
Though idk why people only try to do the dumb "bundles carried" thing with Horizon, but not with Ragnarok

I wonder what the marketing budgets for AAA games are these days. gotta be approaching 100% of the game cost like some movies.
no idea what they did in this case though. I could see the performance not being as great as you might think given those figures if they spent a lot on marketing

no clue, hell horizon outsold tlou2 and that took two years to hit 10 million sales when the development cost was 220 million
you would think a big ass company would have revune gain under a microscope, so it's probably fine, but this is the same company that greenlit concord
granted every company has their f*** ups, but still
Stacked year

It will always be year on year off to fluctuate which is actually a good move allows people to catch up and save money

nah you're forgetting marketing. A good general rule for this stuff is to multiply the reported budget by 2.5 and then compare revenue

yeah but the devs/distribution are still paying the agency doing the marketing + all of that ties in to decide whether or not the game is profitable

he is forgetting a lot but just letting him cook because otherwise they will say I am a know it all
They think just because some numbers leak that its accurate to the entire process

youre right, but i still hate it lol

i feel so jaded sometimes because i honestly would rather not know about this stuff and just look at numbers and be like oh that's nice that worked

if that's the rule of thumb i don't see how any of these games are making a profit with these budget sizes
