    Marcus is Dust

    Oh nice

I think she was, and he’s mentioned being into reading and writing heavy since he was a kid. Also, have you read his short story? https://www.everyseeker.com/billy-woods I had no idea he wrote fiction, tho I think this is autobiographical.

Yeah straight up. Every commencement speech after that should’ve just been replaced with that audio lol. And that’s crazy you tackled Infinite Jest—I’m way too intimidated. I’ve read Brief Interviews and Oblivion, but I think I was too young to have fully grasped them. E Unibus Pluram is brilliant tho.

yo u real fam, E Unibus Pluram is my fav essay oat u can see that and this interview like mission statements for IJ too (this essay makes a p convincing case that those and Lynch are important building blocks)

If you like Wallace def try yourself at IJ at some point. It's very central in his oevre tbh. It's honestly surprisingly readable, since English is my second language I had to get past the frustration of not understanding every word and stop myself from looking up words too much - there's def been some passages where I couldn't completely follow wtf is going on but there's usually been enough hooks to latch onto to still follow most of the plot and still get a lot of enjoyment out of the language. And a lot of it is quite funny or just incredibly relatable! And there's so many fascinating little sci-fi concepts in there too, and insane ideas about experimental filmmaking. I feel like these things don't get stressed enough.

Yes it's ridiculously challenging, but it was designed to be just as rewarding as it is challenging. I'm really looking forward to re-read it tbh, my English is much better now than it was 3 years ago

Also lol yeah you're right This Is Water is rly the speech to end all speeches highkey

Yeah s*** was wildly prophetic tbh. It was required reading for my Capstone course in irony, and I'm so happy I got put on

Yeah I may give it a go. After I graduated this year I've been kinda all over the place w my leisure reading (about to start Miles Davis' autobiography), but I may have to give it a proper go at some point.

When did you start learning English? I can't even imagining tackling a text like IJ in my first language

I also understand that he goes extremely hard w tangential, pages-long footnotes in that book, which can be tough sometimes.

Yeah of course, should’ve said relearned

I do like Earl’s current style but I wouldn’t mind hearing him get in more of a pocket and bring some energy the way dude did on this track

That post-Doris era starting with 45 was Earl at his best.
