I agree in a vacuum but nobody knew the extent of the virus at the beginning of the year so I think it was fair to say a lot of people would’ve rather aired on the safe side. I also think it’s disingenuous to say America had a true lockdown because it varied state to state and even the states that did have the “lockdowns” did not do a good enough job to make a real difference long term. Even then so if everything you say is true I don’t know how anyone could not be on the side of the people actually getting a break for once, COVID or not. There is nothing wrong with the government helping us out for once as opposed to foreign interests or higher tax bracket people. The ideology that the government whose job is to literally represent the citizens of this country especially in a time of need is not only not necessary but somehow a negative is such a dangerous precedent that allows them to continue to get away with this BS.

The lockdowns did plenty, look at the numbers. Problem is once businesses began to open in phases people definetly eased up in various ways, traveling for leisure, frequenting restaurants and bars and just an overall lack of logic. The government's (in the US) handling of the pandemic was not ideal especially it's "support" towards people in financial crisis which is another topic. Lockdowns don't serve much of a purpose if people revert back to normal
