Probably the best but also the most misunderstood philosophy imo.
It's been diminished by the modern day meaning of the word 'Stoic'. Which people relate to the philosophy and think it's about having no feelings about anything which couldn't be further from the truth.
I honestly could read Stoic philosophy books all day tbh, I love it. But it also saddens me how much Greek/Roman material we have lost never to be found again
mfs really think being stoic means having no feelings

Crazy the founder himself, Zeno, we don't have any of his works.

what a day to be alive and well :)
once my brother said “stoic” like “stoyk” when he was like 14 a decade ago and thats still all i can think of when i see that word
that’s all i have to offer

In a sense it is being unemotional a lot of the time, specifically towards pain.
If that’s wrong, enlighten me

acting rational ≠ being unemotional
it would be irrational to attempt to suppress your emotions as they are a foundational aspect of our human nature
the key difference IMO is the contrast between the way you are and the way you act
for instance I can be frustrated at my wife for something she said or did, but I can still act in a kind and caring way because I know that is just the right thing to do
So living in the present?
oversimplified, yes
@lx2mEWy14 welcome brother
Started making my bed every morning and lost my virginity within a week. Now I’m astral projecting.
Been reading Alan Watts The wisdom of insecurity
Not exactly a stoic philosophy but has certain terms of it
I was reading Seneca’s letters but misplaced it in a bar late night
