Murals on a lyrical sense is part of the disconnect between new/albeit more lyrical Lupe and old/more accessible Lupe.

Failure does what Murals did was better in how it engaged the listener over a complex lyrical song without challenging the listener too much. So while Murals is the most lyrical song of the last decade, it's not something I wanna replay over and over versus a Failure or a Dumb it Down.

Mural is top tier Lupe because of how he’s consistently changing up his flows and making a 9 minute song so captivating. It’s clear you didn’t grow up on Lupe because one of the biggest issues with him pre Tetsuo was that he was ultra lyrical without being nearly as strong in delivery, flow and charisma. His flows in his mixtapes, f&L, the cool pale massively to what he’s doing on Tetsuo. Deliver is a great example of Lupe actually just making a catchy song all off his rapping and not being reliant on a catchy hook to single handedly sell a song like in the past.

Murals beat is also way f***ing better than the beats on failure or dumb it down. Also dumb it down is honestly just a pretentious song if we’re being real which is something Lupe struggled with also because when you’re only lyrical and the other elements of your rapping aren’t up to par, it can come off pretentious when you’re getting mad that you gotta dumb it down for the audience.

The greatness of Tetsuo and youth is how much Lupe leveled up as an actual rapper beyond just the lyricism. The production is better but so is his delivery and flows. He sounds far more confident

I will say I do love Dots and Lines & Prisoner is definitely top 5 Lupe hooks of all time.

But a lot of Tetsuo and Youth definitely be overwhelming.
