Lupe didn’t dumb down for his audience. That’s a great thing. And he didn’t make a single song nearly as pretentious as B**** Bad or Dumb it Down. There’s a real story to Tetsuo and youth. It’s not just Lupe getting absorbed in wordplay. Prisoner 1 and 2, adoration of the magi, deliver, body of work, etc. all display that

And even just off metaphors and wordplay and bars, I don’t see how any of that is more pretentious than Kendrick beating the listener over the head with messages like he does on all his albums

We just want good thought provoking music like his first two albums, not artsy fartsy albums where I’ve literally only ever seen one song get talked about…(mural) oh wow he rapped for 9 minutes. American terrorist would be the worst song on tetsuo and youth and that’s just off the music. It’s a terrible beat, the hook is super unmemorable and Lupe’s flows are basic on it
